Quote from Traffic Jam: “One other thing….my pedals are flat on one side so I can wear regular shoes if I want. ” A caveat to the flat-on-one-side pedals.. they have a small profile and would not be comfortable for long rides. I only use them for short distances when it’s not worth donning my bike shoes. Like a spin around the neighborhood. Also, they require doing a blind flip with the toe of your shoe when you want to clip in. What I mean…usually my pedals will flip to flat side up so I have t…

A few thoughts… I’ve been using clipless (why are they even called that when you ‘clip in’ and ‘clip out’?) for a long time and they are second nature now. They are more efficient than regular pedals or toe clips and make a person feel “one with the bike”… but it was very hard for me to learn. Like everything I do, I struggled with them and it took a long time to get comfortable. You are an experienced cyclist so may take to them much faster than I did. However, as we are both older folks, the r…

I just finished The Violin Conspiracy by Brendan Slocumb and loved it. It’s fiction but highlights the racism and lack of diversity in classical music. Can’t wait to read his next book.

Gravity fed water and food containers (with back-ups if something unforeseen happens which never has) and a half dozen litter boxes and you're good to go. ” First time cat mom plus young cat who destroys things. Another ride today, I’m on a roll! It is so hot! I had to squirt water on my head and neck, was very slow, and stopped several times to rest. But I did it and feel great.

So I have two hoodies, two dresses, and a skirt. I love them, they are very warm and comfy but I would not hike in them. They are too nice and pricey in my op…

Just a random post… I’m making chicken shawarma. Every time I see or eat shawarma, I think of Elf as it was one of his post-birth meals and I hadn’t heard of it until then. Speaking of birth, I will be a grandma again around thanksgiving. There’s so much to be thankful for!!!

I did another 14 ish miles last week on road and gravel but last night rode only on gravel. It’s really hot this week and it was 90* at 6pm when I started. Thank goodness it was shaded but I was still super slow and had to stop often to rest. I’m ready for fall!

The weather is gorgeous today so it was a toss up between hiking and biking. My bike shoes were shouting, Me! Pick me! So I rode about 12 miles, 9 on the road and 3 on gravel. A head wind made the return very slow.

Quote from LIhikers: “My wife and I are visiting our son, and his wife, in Ohio. Today we rented bicycles and did a 36 mile ride on a local rail trail. The trail was pretty flat, making it easy but the bicycles were of a design that was very uncomfortable. The crank was too far forward making the bike hard to get off when stopped and hard to get going again. The brand was Electra and model Townie 7. Good enough for a trail side rental but nothing I'd ever buy. ” That’s a lot of miles! Good for y…

  • Quote from Espeycaver: “yeah I thought about injury but barring that you are required to sleep in the shelter, that's why you reserve it. ” Indeed, but there are other variables to consider. I’ve been in a situation where two hikers were having difficulty and had to stop for the night at a shelter without a reservation. And several times with thru hikers who needed to get out of the rain. Also, there were many times when I didn’t think I’d make it to the next shelter. I’m non-confrontational and…
