Quote from max.patch: “Quote from LIhikers: “Kathy and I still use paper maps and guide books. While I'm out hiking I like to leave my phone put away. ” Me too! If my phone wasn't also my camera it'd be buried in the pack. I believe in Murphys law -- so I believe that when you need to access your phone the most that's when it will probably fail for whatever reason. ” Sounds like a good plan - after all, how many reports show up on these types of hiking forums of rescues being needed due to some …

Quote from Astro: “While at Hobby Lobby with my wife I saw this. ” That explains why hikers clothes get looser while hiking - no closets for those calories to hide in, so no sewing gets done

  • Quote from LIhikers: “Quote from jimmyjam: “$6.05 not sure what I'll use that for. ” You might be able to get a sock, not a pair of socks. ” Perfect for those times when one of a pair gets a hole - now you have the "extra" one to match with the still usable one of the pair!

Quote from Astro: “Quote from LIhikers: “I've been using the same sleeping pad for years and years, a Thermarest, Neoair, Allseason. Not only is it comfortable, but it's warm in the winter too. For the last few years it's had a slow leak and I'd have to blow it back up to proper pressure a couple of times per night. Today I was off from work and decided I'd try yet again to find the leak. So I partially filled the bath tub with water and gave the sleeping pad the dunk test while I looked for bub…

Quote from odd man out: “I was checking to see when I would be eligible to get a Covid vaccine. Right now I have two options. One is to convince someone that chemistry professors are critical to the functioning of society and requires close contact with people. That is sort of true, in that I teach pre-nursing chem and labs require sanding next to students, although university professors are not generally included in this group. the second option is more straight forward. I could give myself an …

It is mostly made up of those existing trails, however there were several gaps in them that were "filled in" to make it a more thru trail. For instance, the section from Albany to Hudson (known as the Albany Hudson Electric Trail) is all newly signed and created, following a former electric trolley line from the early 1900's. Sections were "accessible/usable" before, but never on an "official" basis, and even those sections (like our local part here in Valatie) was tough to use for many, as it w…
