I am not finding the information I desire via the web. Hopefully I find some in here. Either way, everyone is saying it is a good read. Thank you for the suggestion.

I once caught a game between the Maine Black Bears and William & Mary in Williamsburg Virginia. Maine was thrashing W&M. We were on the W&M side of the field. All at once my mouth got ahead of my brain. I screamed, "I see a lot of Mary out there, but where is William?" I thought my buddy with me at the game was going to kill me. It is interesting being me at times.

Quote from rafe: “I was blessed with good to excellent weather on most of my Maine hikes. An impending hailstorm on Baldpate summit made for one of my best AT photos ever. More memorable than Baldpate two weeks ago, under a clear blue sky. On my two passes thru the HMW the view from Nesuntabunt couldn't have been more different. One had a beautiful view out to Katahdin, the other had nothing but gray void. This is the section hiker's advantage... you get to choose your seasons (if not the weathe…

Quote from hikerboy: “all of my memories of maine are filled with rain.i think out of around 40 or 50 days in maine, it may have been rain free 5 of those days.” You should hike with me. I had one day of rain hiking Maine last year. I can tell you off the top if my head what day that was. It was July 23 on my walk from Pierce Pond to Little Bigelow Campsite. I had about 4 hours of hiking in the rain this year. You, sir, are doing it all wrong. You should hike with me on the Long Trail next year.

What is being described above is why I have a dedicated pair of sleeping socks. My feet are tended to nightly. They recover nightly. They get glide put on them every morning. I am going to incorporate JJ's newspaper idea now too.

I will add that I tried to keep my feet dry at first. I still do to a certain extent. I find it is better to apply Glide to my feet and not stress if they get wet. I met a man in the 100 mile wilderness that just trudged though brooks with no care. It was not long before I started to do the same. It is amazing how quickly breathable trail runners dry. It is debatable if it is worth the effort to change into water shoes for brook crossings. I use my water shoes more for camp now, if I bring them …

Quote from twistwrist: “So you take 2 pair of hiking shoes?” I agree with HB. Waterproof is fine for very short distances. It is better to have fast drying in the long run instead if waterproof. Your feet are going to get wet. So are you. It is okay to get your feet wet. They will dry. They won't if you are wearing waterproof shoes that finally get saturated. Bringing duplicate things really is not a good option either. The weight adds up quick.

Okay. I have decided to run an experiment instead of trying to buy something. My wife has an eye appointment coming up soon. I will take the pair she gets from that appointment and modify them. I plan to glue tiny pieces of carbon fiber felt to points of facial contact. I suspect at the temples, nose and maybe eyebrow will suffice. I am also going to affix a piece of shock cord to them by drilling tiny holes in the temple area and then covering the knot with the carbon fiber felt in that area. I…

More product research. This is the most calorie dense version of Snickers. It is 0.08 oz lighter than the regular type and has the government mandated 250 calorie limit. I am budgeting 2 packs per day. They come in a double pack. Buying them should save a bit of weight in packaging. Given the lower weight and my plans to carry as much as 10 days of food, this will result in a 1.6 oz weight savings. appalachiantrailcafe.net/index…33e3bbc9a51e38894b2bc9019

I pay $286 per year for home insurance. I pay just under $600 per year for 2 vehicles (full coverage on one and liability on the other). Close enough for me. I am not a member of any club that saves me anything. Money is never the first thing I consider. I would gladly swap all my money for many more important things. All things being equal, I look for savings. If things behind the scenes are not equal, principle comes first. Money is not that important to me. Sorry I went there. Now back to gra…
