A German brewery has developed a dehydrated beer. Could be great for backpacking except, it's not available yet, we don't know what it tastes like, it's alcohol free, if you want it cold. You'll have to pack in your own fridge and generator. klosterbrauerei.com/shop/Bierpulver/951/951 We site in German. My browser auto translates.

time for a new thought: The famous theme music for the Mission Impossible franchise is built on a four-note motif. The first two notes are one and one half beats each and the second two are one beat each. This adds up to five beats which is why the theme has the unusual 5/4 meter. The composer Lalo Schifrin, one joked that he use 5/4 so aliens with five legs could dance to it. But Schifrin also said he came up with this "dah dah dit dit" rhythm from Morse Code for M.I.

That's hilarious. But frankly, I'm surprised at so much bad behavior in the south. I assumed everyone is so polite. After all, pretty much every highway exit has a gentlemen's club.

Quote from max.patch: “Quote from StalkingTortoise: “Gettin' old ain't for wimps! ” My knees agree. ” I was a bit nervous going into my 5-day Hermit Loop in the Grand Canyon last April. My wife was sure I was going to die. But I had zero problems with my knees, feet, back, or any other body part. I was shocked, really. But with that positive outcome last year, I am feeling bold about going further this year. I posted earlier about a couple of options, including Katahdin/HMW. But after doing the …

There are a few STEM-oriented people here, I think, and I guess we tend to analyze things the way you do. One topic that has always fascinated me is risk assessment and how most people are really bad at it. You hear a lot about "bears are dangerous" and "you should never hike alone", etc... All this advice fails when viewed from an analytical point of view. The worst is is "X is dangerous" (insert anything you like for X). For many (most?) people, if something bad could happen, that activity is …

  • Big Bend and Great Basin are two parks that I see on a lot of "hidden treasures" lists. Both are large, airid, mountainous, and remote. Isle Royale and North Cascades are two others. They are the least visited parks outside of AK because they are hard to get to. I've been to IR and hope to get back this summer.

Quote from Trillium: “And now #15 Princeton beat Missouri to progress to the Sweet Sixteen. The Big Ten went 5-3 in the first round. Three of those teams play tonight: Penn State, Northwestern and Maryland. I don't think any of them will get through to the Sweet Sixteen. Lastly, congrats to the Tennessee Volunteers for beating the Dukies! ” big 10 always seem to underperformed in March.
