My wife and I do a lot of our hiking in NY's Harriman State Park, which has hundreds of miles of trails. There have been dozens of times that people have asked us if we had a map because their phone or GPS has gone dead, usually due to a dead battery. And almost always it's young people. Well almost everybody is younger than me so let me say people under 30.

My wife and I always carry paper maps. While they are occassionally useful, it's more because my wife just enjoys reading maps. She reads maps instead of novels.

I'll probably be replacing my car in the next year, if the Honda Element were still a available I'd get one in a heart beat. I'll have ask the local dealer if they know anything about it coming back. I presently drive a 2002 Subaru Forester with over 433,000 miles. I'd drive it anywhere in a quick second. The only reason I want to replace it is that to pass the NY emission inspection takes some "special" action.

This was the first time that I didn't even see 1 minute of the Super Bowl and the hoopla that surrounds it, and I don't feel like I missed anything important. The older I get the less I care about sports and other mindless entertainment. I'm feeling like an old grouch today.
