    Post

Thanks everyone for the kind words of congratulations. I apologize for not posting more about the 100 mile wilderness and Katahdin, but I did not get back to Shaw's Thursday until 8:30pm. Spent most of Friday and Saturday driving the 1,700 miles home, Sunday and Monday trying to take care of everything I needed to at work and around the house. And today packing for Colorado Trail Collegiate Loop and then driving to Ft Smith. Well provide more AT details when I get back from that hike.

Tomorrow I will head to Ft Smith to spend the night with my son. Then drive the remaining 12.5 hours to the Colorado Trail Wednesday. Drop off my resupply boxes Thursday morning as I try to get acclimated. In the afternoon I will park at Twin Lakes and then try to get a few miles on the Collegiate Loop. Friday will be my first full day. Try to do the 161 miles in less than two weeks. Starting with lower elevation East and work up to higher elevation West.

We did one winter, 2 day hike that was so cold a ranger was parked at a road crossing to check people's gear. If he didn't like what he saw he was telling people to turn around and go home. I guess they didn't want to have to make middle of the night rescues. We passed inspection and went on our way. ” Something similar happened to me and one other hiker when…

Anyone have an idea what 15 to 17 mph northwest winds would be like on Katahdin? Slowed down to spend a free day in the woods, and going into Abol Bridge this morning. Currently plan to summit Thursday.

Great day today, 16.1 miles to Antlers Campsite. Got food drop with my newer tent (Tiger Wall I gave myself for Christmas, old Fly Creek zipper broke) from Shaw's, and got trail magic by 100 Mile Wilderness at Jo-Mary road (hot dog, sloppy joe, Mountain Dew), and phone service tonight. Praying for decent weather to summit Tuesday. Only 51.8 miles to go!

Chairbacks were not that much fun. Just came down White Cap, stormy and no views of anything, much less Katahdin. Felt like I was going to get blown over by the strong winds until I got below treeline. When I get to East Branch Lean To this afternoon will have less than 70 miles to go. Flatter trail ahead.
