So, I got asked on a date last night to Fenway Park appalachiantrailcafe.net/index…e78e88caf040b566c1f486f2a Great night. Red Sox won. First time in Fenway since the pandemic. In case you were wondering, mask wearing at the park was maybe one in five hundred. At my local supermarket it is still running 50/50. Different demographics I guess.

Yesterday in clear, windless weather I heard a crashing outside my house over by where I hang my hammock. A dead tree truck I had left standing for the woodpeckers had fallen over. My hammock location was never really in any danger, but it was a reminder that sometimes trees just fall and bad things can happen. All that was left of this tree was twenty feet of trunk, but it was heavy enough to take out the 8-inch oak next to it and shatter it to splinters. And then today this story came up... Ov…

Sometimes when I am above timberline in the Whites or on the PCT I come across one of those crazy endurance runners in shorts and a T-shirt with nothing more than a hydration pack. I cannot help thinking that they are one mistake away from disaster up there. Well, this news story should convince them... cnn.com/2021/05/22/china/china…-deal-intl-hnk/index.html

I told her it was the work of a Pileated Woodpecker, but she was convinced only a bear could strip a tree like that So far, all I have is dozens of squirrel photos.

3 - 0, I say swing away. Scott's unwritten rule is that the fans deserve to see every player playing their best game. If the manager wants to show some 'sportsmanship' by using a blowout as an opportunity to give a bench warmer some at bats, I am all for that. That is the way a blowout should be handled. But don't send one of the games hot young hitters up there and expect him to lay off the ball.
