PostI never would have thought the times would be so close. When I heat water I use a Zelph Super Stove. No priming, so I wonder what the times would be with that set up, no priming involved. Hmmmm I bet I'll never find my wind screens for a test...

PostQuote from Rasty: “I think it's time for another hike in the Smokies. Hopefully I'll have some snow and ice. Thinking about doing a hike from Gatlinburg up to Leconte then over to the AT or BMT to Standing bear. Anyone want to go?” Did you go on this hike? Any Pics?

Re:Sawyer Squeeze
PostI like your back flush technique. I've seen tons of different caps people have made. Just haven't made one myself yet...I was worried it would turn into something like my stove building days. I had cans everywhere. At least with caps the wife wouldn't get as mad about the mess. .. I'll be watching for your pics.

PostThe reason I ask is because a couple of years ago I quit using a windscreen. Now I just stack rocks around and was wondering what the time difference might be. .. Not that it matters for my hikes. I always seem to take too much fuel. And this works for me to heat water for oatmeal or a cup of coco. I don't need a long rolling boil for that.

If rain is only slightly in the forecast I take the Borahgami tarp. If its raining all weekend I will take my double wall tent. .... Just …

Re:Sawyer Squeeze
PostTo help fill a bottle, a piece of foil laying flat will sometimes make a waterfall where you can hold your bottle under it. I've used mine for a couple of months now. I like the simplicity of this filter. I just fill my water bottles with the good clean water. I tried keeping one attached to a dirty water bottle and it just doesn't seem right to me. It is very top heavy. It works good, just top heavy on a not so full bottle. After reading different reviews I have decided I will be carrying the s…

PostI see they are coming out with the new hubba hubba. I'm looking into this one for the times I need it. My wife can't get used to sleeping under a tarp. She even has a hard time with the tarp when it's in A frame mode... And it has doors

Did you save the sleeves? What did you make with them? I thought about making some down socks with the sleeves.

I'd also have to say I go with down because of the weight. I'm not a gram weenie but I have had three back surgeries so I do try pretty hard to keep my pack weight down. ... Once I make it past the first night my pack gets Alot lighter.
