We had clouds early in the morning. By noon the clouds were still taking turns obscuring the sun. About 45 minutes before totality, it started really clearing out. When it went to full totality, I can't describe that. When the sun was about 80 percent covered, we had night flying bugs starting to show up. night time bugs started singing and the birds started getting quiet. We stayed at home and had about 2 minutes of totality. Our dog was unimpressed with the show, but loved having mom and dad h…

We had planned to travel about 1.5 hours to the south to get a longer totality time. We have some friends there. But traffic could be an issue also. However the farther south you go, the thicker the clouds will be. We've decided to stay home now. But we are on the fringe of the totality area. But we still will have high cloud cover and maybe more. Storms moving in from the south by 4 PM.

Earthquake
PostHave you read about the 101 floor tall building in Tiawan? It has a pendulum near the top for absorbing vibrations. Says you may go up and view it. Other cameras aimed at the building during their earthquake showed other buildings moving....and not the 101 tall one. WOW.

PostI missed it. Don't think I've seen it either. I looked at my AT Guide but must have misread it as I came up with "Northern Shenandoah", so picked HF/WV. I then looked at Pen Mar Park and the current AT Guide shows it at mile 1067 on a NOBO.

It's talking about that dog that has been posted as missing on the AT, in Facebook 2024 hiker groups. ” Knucklehead Angry Guy is ranting about Ramdino, who's kind of become the news reporter for the AT on YouTube. And once again showing how little he knows ab…

Took a walk today
PostI got out to LBJ National Grasslands. First time since our orienteering event in January. There were some cars in the back country, but a FS person was with them and I saw one leave and they knew how to operate the gate locks. The FS Volunteer I talk with, said he had no notice anyone was back in there. They were looking at grass and all the wildflowers so probably studying those. I hiked 8.67 miles in 3 hours moving and 3.5 hours out, so I stood around or was watering trees the other 30 minutes…

Quote from Astro: “Quote from LIhikers: “Just my 2 cents, which isn't worth even that much, but I think all this worrying is gonna be for naught. Just like the Y2K worry which turned out to be a waste of time and energy. ” But on the other side of Y2K there was many millions $ spent to prepare for it.All those COBOL programmers that had been laid off, got a good last laugh as they were brough back at a handsome rate to prepare for it. ” My career was in computing.
