Quote from LIhikers: “Yesterday was the first day this year that I commuted to work on my bicycle, a Surley Disc Trucker. When I left the house it was 32 degrees with a strong wind. The weather services were calling it variable from 2 to 18 mph. Traffic was just as I knew it would be, insane. I leave the house at 6:30 in the morning which gives me plenty of extra time, that way if I get a flat I won't be late for work. I kill that extra time at a Dunkin Donuts right near where I work. As I was g…

...meaning...I would have to find a place to stash it, like a music shop or hiker hostel (which means it’s probably too complicated to hike in SNP). I didn’t mean I’d carry it with me.

i had a really awesome hike, even though I experienced my regular snafus. Left my hiking poles in the car and had to go back to get them...rain leaked in my tent from a stupid mistake...nearly knocked myself out trying to hang a bear bag and ended up having to sleep with my food. It was perfect weather (despite some night-time rain) and an amazing trail. I can’t wait to hike the other half, which isn’t as easy. I hiked the section from Sloan Bridge picnic area to Oconee State Park. I was re-hiki…

Had a nice walk today on the BMT with Time Zone. We hiked along the Hiwassee River in Reliance. I visited Webb Bros and took some photos of their resupply offerings for future reference. It was a glorious day with good company. My face is pink, even though I used sunscreen. I wore a full pack as a warm-up for my FHT trip and my legs are now a little stiff. The hike was a test of several things. I thought about wearing an old pair of running shoes as I’m not crazy about my new pair of cascadias. …

I rode outdoors yesterday for the first time this year and boy my muscles are sore. It was great. I forced myself to ride up a steep hill that is always a killer and feel really good that I did it in the ‘pre-season’. Bike commuting is just around the corner. I’ve become a baby in my middle age and don’t want to commute unless it’s at least 50*. I’m so excited, can’t wait for my first commute in what seems like forever. It’s scary too. It’s been so long, the people on the road at 5:30 am will ha…
