  • Quote from max.patch: “warren doyle has 16 complete hikes of the trail - the most of anyone - and is permanently banned. jack tarlin has 7 consecutive contemporary thru hikes and is the best individual source of information about doing a thru hike. he is on permanent moderated status. anything he posts is reviewed by a moderator before it is added to the site. the fact that gator gets to approve anything jack says is ludicrous. ” Wow! That really just put some things in to perspective... Quote f…

  • Quote from hikerboy: “bsp is a special case in that governor baxter mandated the park be kept forever wild. different when management is handed over to the private sector, whose main goal is to turn a profit, not preserve a natural resource. ” Totally agree! And I'm a fan of the iron-clad rules that he managed to get in to place. Just used BSP as (sort of) an example. But that goal of turning a profit is what worries me when it comes to nature, wildlife, etc. As for other public areas... Well, e…

  • Quote from TrafficJam: “I was joking about the button. But it is weird, generally the only thing that gets censored is swearing. ” Ok... I swear I didn't hit the wrong button.

  • Quote from AnotherKevin: “g00gle: You're going to find that a lot of the people around here think privatization of the parks is a terrific idea. The tenet of faith is that anything government does can be done better by private parties. I sometimes suspect that the belief extends to law enforcement, the judiciary, and diplomacy. ” I wouldn't hazard an argument against the idea of privatizing in general, probably some serious potential for efficiency when people (or corporate entities) are motivat…

  • Perhaps, a little late, but... I'm a having some good laughs in this thread, but my goal isn't to bash that other sandbox. I'll leave that for the more experienced folks. For the record, there are some great people over there (though, thankfully, many of them also seem to be members over here.) And I did learn a lot during my time over there. Now, would one of the mod's please take away my access to these damn smilies? I think I've put one in every effen post I've made today!

  • Quote from Drybones: “Quote from Tuckahoe: “Man I can never seem to get the teeth marks over there. I must be doing it wrong. ” Post this and see what happens. ” I already know what happens... appalachiantrailcafe.net/index…1e4a1abd1de3c5bff32220d29

  • Quote from Da Wolf: “don't know why y'all are whinin' about whiteblaze. i'm still posting there. never any problems with moderators ” LW, I've seen your posts over there. You're mean and you sleep with a pistol... Of course you have no problems over there (or anywhere else, for that matter!)

  • Quote from socks: “He who pays the bills wins! wins=makes the rules...written and otherwise. ” Well, where is this Bill? And does he take credit cards?

  • LMFAO!!! I must've already stepped in it over here... Quote from Cafe: “This post requires approval by a moderator, until then it will remain invisible for others. ” ROFL, Deja Vu?

  • Read about some of the same stuff from other states, and even the feds, a few months back. Didn't care for the political overtones in the article, but the article was a bit sobering. nytimes.com/2015/04/02/opinion/our-land-up-for-grabs.html

I accidentally fed an Alligator while passing a White Blaze - does that count?

  • Quote from jimmyjam: “And thread drift is ok- it's what we do. ” Yeah, I can't wait for the movie... Wait! I see what you did there. Well, I already feel better after reading this thread and browsing around the site. I thought maybe I was just being an A-hole over there. I like that other site (for some of the people and the great info) but it's very cool to find a much more relaxed environment instead of - well, some of you already know. As for those that hike together, hell, I'm just hoping to…

  • For some reason, I notice some pretty familiar names from another popular site - yet nobody ever told me this one was here!?!? It only took a few posts to realize the temperature was much warmer over here. Plus, there seems to be a mean ol' nasty Alligator lurking in that other sandbox...
