I'm happy to think out loud about this with you. If you divide things up somewhat evenly, that means you are looking for sections around 440 miles in length. If you are looking to do it in 2 1/2 years I'm guessing you want to do a spring hike and a late summer fall hike with a break in-between. Is that right? Yup, Williamstown, MA., a pretty college town. Has a great little art museum (The Clark), and is near North Adams which has a large modern art museum (Mass MoCA, if you like that sort of thing). For Revolutionary history buffs, Bennington, VT is a short drive north. And I hear there is some long distance trail nearby too. If the do the gathering on Columbus Day weekend, that area should be just a few days short of peak fall foliage.

This is all very entertaining, but these debates are not very fruitful. HB, I hope to make it to one of the gatherings someday, perhaps next time it is held in New England. Most years on Columbus Day weekend I get a cabin near Gorham, NH with my wife (wish the kids still came.)
