Another Red Sox story I vaguely recall is that Jim Rice once hit the ball so hard that it tore the cover, and caused the ball to almost decapitate the outfielder, who was expecting it to go over the fence when it suddenly nose-dived down at him. Anyone else remember a story like that?

Bill Lee had 2 HR in his career, so that story is even more legendary knowing that!

What a great story about Bill Lee! Is it true Luis Tiant actually pitched while smoking a Cuban Cigar? I loved watching him contort around. He is certainly one of the great pitchers of all time that no one ever mentions as such. I looked at his stats, and he was 229-172, 3.30 ERA, won 20 four times, and had a 21-9 1.60 ERA season with the Indians, which I don't recall. But I do remember him on Boston.

I am a lifelong Dodger fan, but always have had a soft spot for the Red Sox. I used to love watching Dwight Evans gun people down from RF. It was also nice as a kid to see the AAA Pawtucket team come down and visit Norfolk and play the Mets' AAA team (Tidewater Tides). I got to see a lot of great players from the Red Sox as they moved up.

Haven't been in the winter, but when we went on Memorial Day weekend in 2013, it was 37 degrees when we arrived, with 40 mph northwest winds and snow flurries. It improved over the weekend, so I am glad we toughed it out, but we came very close to getting right back in our cars and leaving. lol

Looked at Rico's stats...wonder how he turned on the power and hit 40 HR in 1969? I remember him vaguely, seems like he was a defensive whiz as I recall.

An interesting and agonizing thing to watch was when Glavine face a slap hitter like Brett Butler...junk baller vs a guy who could barely hit it over the infield. Made for some interesting at bats.

Quote from Trebor: “Quote from milkman: “Good day for Atlanta.” Sure is, Glavine and Maddux both made it. Congrats to both.” Glavine was one of those pitchers who looked like he was throwing batting practice, but no one could ever hit the stuff. His stuff looked easier to hit than a slow pitch softball, to an untrained eye like mine, but obviously it was good enough to get him in the HOF!

Quote from BirdBrain: “Quote from namtrag: “I believe they won 1 time, but my memory is fuzzy. He is definitely in the top 10 all time pitchers” Nothing wrong with your memory. Loved Ryan. Hated Clemens.” I still think Clemens is getting shafted by everyone. There is no way he used PED in the 80's...if he did use them, it was in the twilight of his career to prolong it. It's similar to Pete Rose, look at the body of work. Clemens was the dominant pitcher of his time, even if you throw out the la…

Quote from BirdBrain: “How does Maddux not get unanimous vote? I heard at least one is not going to vote for him because he was in the PED era.” I think it's hard to give him unanimous when no one else ever has gotten it. Or maybe he can be the first to break the string and stop the foolishness of that logic. I prefer power pitchers over junk ballers. I would much rather have Tom Seaver, Randy Johnson or Nolan Ryan pitching in game 7 than Maddux, but that's just me. I used to hate that the umps …

Yeah, Tuck, you got the service roads correct...all of VB Blvd, and Mercury Blvd had them. And we all called them feeder roads. Did you guys? There were a few traffic circles...the one you referred to was called the Landsdale Traffic Circle, then there was at least one other one I remember, downtown where Tidewater Drive and Brambleton crossed. There may have been another where Tidewater crossed VB Blvd, but I am foggy on that. Again we definitely called them traffic circles in my family. They w…

We also have what we call a rain line. It's the line where the rain stops. Rain and sunny on one side, dry as a bone on the other. You can actually stick your arm in and out of it and not even get your …

I also noticed that many of my answers resulted in an entirely dark blue map. We have service roads here, but we call them feeder roads...it says I was similar to Houston TX, and nowhere else when I answered that one. Same with a rain shower when the sun is out. I call it a sunshower. It said no one calls it that except in Minnesota vicinity. lol

Yeah, and that's why I think the poll was rigged. Once it zeroes in just a little bit, it asks self fulfilling questions. I would have loved to have an Italian sanswich! I did find some of the questions odd: What do you call the strip between the sidewalk and the street? WTF? It has a name?
