PostTrail friend Carbon visited The Bus this summer and appropriately sat for this picture. He has much commentary on what he saw.

Thanks JJ! They fit perfectly and have been ceremoniously added to the pack. Very special and thoughtful packaging I might add.

I just read the post via another channel of media. So interesting. Knowing the mission of BSP intimately I am sure these guys mean business. They are very clearly bound by the agreement made in trust long ago when the land was given by Percival Baxter. They cannot and do not deviate. I am not surprised they are pushing back. I tried to explain this on my thru to others but only got uneducated arguments back. For that matter I tried in the Whites with the AMC complaints and even in the Smokies (t…

Winter Boots
PostI live and hike in Maine year round. I usually hike in my regular hiking boots/shoes with gaiters and as long as I am moving my feet stay warm. I snowshoe in the same. If the snow is really deep...a foot or more I use my Sorrels (PAC boots) but do way less mileage but just enjoy the walk.

Down Pants
PostLove my Montbelles. Saved my skinny ass from freezing in 2013. Slept in them many a night but mostly donned them over tights at camp. Everybody teased me when I bought them at Neels Gap on day 3. They were drooling with jealousy shortly thereafter. I did rip a whole in the seat in the Smokies leaving a path of down but we duct taped and later patched. Had a few volunteers for duct tape duty.

Am I crazy? I loved the sleeve on my Big Agnes bag that the sleeping pad slid into. Kept me in place while rotisserie sleeping. I am about to sew a mesh sleeve onto my new Mountain Hardware Phantasia bag to recreate the sleeping bliss. Any comments?

Ice Cleats
PostMicro spikes...trust me I've learned the hard way. Yank tracks fall off and you have to go back (!) to find them. Stabilizers are for driveways. Maine snow gets hard packed and turns to plate ice which doesn't melt till March. Heavy but worth it.

PostSad but true. Just lost my Jack. 16 and I figured over 1000 miles under her little belt. Not named Jack. That is my other friend.
