Fish Over A Fire
PostOne of my favorite spots on the AT here in Maine is Horn Pond in the Bigelows. There are Brook Trout in the pond and it's a nice place to wet a fly. The only problem there and at Speck Pond is that open fires are prohibited at the campsites. Any fish I catch and want to eat there are eaten raw, or cooked in my Bakepacker in chunks. I would rather have fried them, but don'r have a pan large enough that I carry on backpacking trips.

Mountain House
PostDuring my time participating in the Southeast Asian War Games (68-69) We came in second by the way. I was addicted to LRRP rations. Especially the chicken and Rice, Beef and Rice, and Chicken Ala King. A couple of years ago I was told that Mountain House was the contractor who supplied these. I bought some MH Chicken and Rice in #10 cans and it's close, but doesn't seem the same. I also heard that LRRP rations had some additives that would not be used nowadays? Anyone have any knowledge of this?

Hi Trillium Congratulations on your Camino. Ultreia and Buon Camino. I walked solo from Saint Jean Pied de Port to Santiago last year (13) and then again this past Autumn. This year I started on Pau, France and walked up over SomPort (Portus Summus) on the Camino Aragon and joined the Camino Frances in Obanos. This September I was shocked by the sheer mass of people on the Frances Route compared to September 2013. The Aragon was nearly devoid of walkers, but too short. My next trip will be to wa…
