    • I only eat 2 meals on the trail. Sugary oatmeal for breakfast and mac-n-cheese for supper. Same routine every day. No variety. Given that they do not change, I guess you could say they are my favorites. I could list my snacks eaten while walking. However, that was not your question and they would all be equally boring and redundant as my meals.
Non hikers are about a psi shy of a legal ball.
    • I guess I am not that big on variety. Primarily Mountain House: Chili Mac & Beef, Spaghetti w/ Meat Sauce, Beef Stew, and Mexican Chicken & Rice. Also occasionally Beef Stroganoff w/ Noodles and Chicken Teriyaki & Rice. Recently bought some 12 pack buckets on clearance that had Rice and Chicken mixed in them. Probably need to bring some Soy or Taco Bell Sauce to spice those up.

After hiking all day, I appreciate quick and simple with no clean up. For 4 weeks back in 2013 I never got tired of them, and plan the same for about 7 weeks this summer. Of course I am still looking forward to the SNP Waysides and every town I hit too.

I sort of covered this in my food thread, but I say again, that I really do like to carry a bit of fruit especially citrus. An orange on a mountain top is a real treat.

Fruit is a luxury. Taste great and refreshing, but there is a weight penalty for it. First trip from Springer my dad gave my son and I some apples (off his trees) to take with us. They were great, but heavy, and were the first things we ate up.

    • Oatmeal in the morning with pop tarts and coffee ..Lunch, peanut butter and cheese on a tortilla, .Dinner usually ramen noddles or some knorr side, or instant mashed potatoes, I add Oscar Meyer bacon , sprinkle in between meals cliff bars or granola bars , snickers
      RIAP
    • Coffee. Food is just a fuel. Coffee is life.

I've done the Mountain House meals (some right tasty stuff those), summer sausage/cheese/crackers, a few different things slathered on tortillas. Nothing has really jumped out as a frontrunner. Maybe that's just due to my limited time in the woods. However, coffee stands above all else. I could say screw breakfast and just eat some snack stuff while walking, but I WILL take time to boil water and have coffee before I get moving.

UH OK, clearly we did not get the UL Puck cookbook & leave no trace memo.... So do you have a limo pick you up and take you to the nearest zagat restaurant? Mind if I tag along on your next trip? Willing to defray the costs.... Maybe we can cook Skirt steak on a rock. I will bring the Merlot. Owls hang out on limbs for Merlot. Serious - do you have a video? Clearly we are doing it all wrong.

Bananas and banana chips. The potassium helps balance the salt in mountain house food. I also home dry sweet potatoes. Roast them, mash them, and make blobs on the solid fruit leather sheets to dry.

Most kit has a small UL pan why not make dried or low moisture sweet potato chips?

No need for anything if pre-cooked before drying. I eat them right out of the bag. One year I made rollups with them, but to much plastic to carry out, blobs worked better.

Funny story about the word "tip". It's an old acronym. Long ago in English coffeehouses, people would put money in a jar "to insure promptness", creating the TIP acronym that we now commonly use today.

Just the tip.... I don't know how many times I said that when I was in high school!
