I don't know if this is the same momma or not but she's in the same area as the one some people reported as living in their neighborhood and aggressively defending her baby. She's already kicked one dog and chased several people. I'm happy to just have Bruce over here in my hood. BTW I almost reported your post as inappropriate just because one this device the Quote button and Report bottom are next to each other and rediculously small. Anyone else have this problem? The post was edited 1 time, last by odd man out ().

The crash was reported at 7:00 p.m., shutting down both west and east bound lanes of the US Route 35 bypass.

The truck was carrying 2,200 piglets. Dispatchers believe at least 300-400 pigs were killed. Another 1,500 were captured. We’re told the piglets were mostly in the wooded area near the crash scene.
There were multiple fire departments and law enforcement agencies on the scene throughout the night, as well as park rangers and farmers who worked to corral the pigs. A company from Cleveland is driving down to pick them up.
Police say the truck was on the west bound ramp when he lost control and veered into a guardrail. There were two people traveling in the truck. The passenger suffered a minor injury and was removed to the hospital for treatment. The truck was en route from South Carolina to Indiana.
The live pigs are being taken to the Greene County Fairgrounds where they will be cared for properly.
Crews worked throughout the night, reopening the roadway around 2:30 Tuesday morning.
Authorities ask that if you see a piglet in your yard or on the road, call police.
Police also worry that the pigs might attract coyotes looking for a meal.
aren't pigs one of those smart animals that know how to get back home? they could take the AT right on back to NC.The post was edited 1 time, last by Socks ().

NEW YORK (AP) — A tiny deer is generating a giant dose of cuteness in New York City.
The Wildlife Conservation Society sent out a baby announcement Monday. It's a boy!
The southern pudu (POO'-doo) fawn — the world's smallest deer species — was born May 12 at the Queens Zoo.
The fawn is still nursing but soon will be munching on leaves, grain, kale, carrots and hay.
The white spots on his soft brown fur will disappear as he grows up.
In his case, though, "growing up" won't be much of a vertical process.
Southern pudus tend to be around a foot tall at the shoulder.
When they're born, they're only 6 inches high — and weigh less than a pound.its all good -

A few weeks ago I was sitting in my living room enjoying the view out the front windows. A hawk swooped down and picked up a kitten from my neighbors front yard and flew within a few feet of the window with the kitten grasped tightly in his talons. I'm not a fan of cats but it was a little sad knowing his daughter was going to be heart broken.RIAP

It looked like the poor beast put it's head though a snow fence and then couldn't get it's head back out.
It was laying dead at the foot of the fence with it's head on one side and body on the other.
The flies and maggots hadn't gotten there yet so I suspect it had happened recently. -

They do indeed birth this time of year. You can pretty much count on a birthing period of at least 3 months duration due to the cycles of the does. Not all are bred the first go around. Some of that year's doe fawns may also be bred later in the season. wobbly legs are a sure sign of a very recent birth. They get nimble pretty quick. If your Doctor is a tree, you're on acid.

Man snaps picture of raccoon on top of gator in Ocala National Forest
wftv.com/news/news/local/man-s…-top-gator-ocala-n/nmcmC/
OCALA, Fla. —
A Palatka man said he snapped a picture of a raccoon on top of an alligator in the Ocala National Forest Sunday morning.
Richard Jones said he and his family were walking along the Oaklawaha River watching alligators when his son walked through some palm fronds to get a good picture.
Jones said his son must have startled the raccoon, which stumbled toward the water and hopped on top of the gator that was nearby.
Jones was able to quickly take the unique photo before the raccoon scurried back on land.
"I snapped a lucky picture right when the gator slipped into the water and before the raccoon jumped off and scurried away. Without the context you'd think the raccoon was hitching a ride across the river. Pretty amazing," Jones said in an email. "Definitely the photo of a lifetime."

My grandfather was stationed in Okinawa Japan during the Korean war, he said that the locals would routinely capture venomous snakes and mongooses (mongeese?) and fight them for sport. Went camping this weekend. Saw lots of Tiger Swallowtails. Also this white butterfly I can't identify. The main reason for the trip was to take the guided tour to see the Kirtland's Warbler. This rare bird was nearly extinct (about 500 birds) back in the early 80's. Now they have recovered to about 4000 birds thanks to habitat management. It seems these birds will only reproduce in Michigan in Jack Pine forests of more than 80 acres with trees that are only a few years old. Historically they would rely on new growth after forest fires. But fire suppression in the mid-20th century nearly wiped them out. Now, the State DNR and NFS work together to clear cut and replant large Jack Pine forests over the norther lower peninsula every year to keep enough suitable habitat for them. Also, their nesting sites are off limits. $5000 fine to enter the managed area without an authorized guide.

Working with my oldest son in the backyard today and he comes across a 2 foot copperhead. On trails I figure it his home, so I just walk around and avoid him. But this is my backyard where my family lives, so he will not be a problem for us again. =OThe road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.
