Got a great look at our local Bald Eagle yesterday. They are nesting at a local park and yesterday he was perched in the top of a tree right next to the parking lot. He was on a dead branch so there were no leaves to obscure the view. He was pretty oblivious to the people coming and going. He didn't move for the whole time we were there walking the dog.

We live on the backwaters of a large lake so we see lots of critters, have a small herd of mink living in the back yard, didn't think to get a photo when one walks up to me on the sea wall yesterday, momma coon was carrying a youngster across the sea wall other day.I may grow old but I'll never grow up.

This thing stung me as I was emptying the skimmers of the pool. I took a picture before I terminated him. It had an orange section on it's bottom side.
Anybody know what it was?The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

Here is some info...

IMScotty, thanks for the link. Since it just stung my finger and I washed it off good right after I took the picture and killed the bug, I am thinking my chance of getting Chagas would be pretty slim.
It did sting initially, but my wife made a baking powder paste that I put my finger in that got rid of the pain. Today other than a tiny red dot on my finger it is like it never happened. The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

Yup, I'm sure you'll be fine. When I went to Costa Rica one of my guides took these bugs very seriously. He said he always did a room check before he went to sleep at night to make sure there weren't any laying in wait for him. I think he had a family member with heart damage from the disease.“Of all sad words of tongue or pen,
the saddest are these, 'It might have been.”

Hmm Delicious?

Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them. -

Since our dog has passed on we get a lot more hanging around in the backyard. The persimmon tree in our front yard is also popular this time of year. The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

Not today, but from last week's trip to Glacier NP.
These goats were along the trail to Hidden Lake Overlook. It is the most popular trail in the park. They were walking right alongside the trail, followed by dozens of hikers.
On the scree of the hill opposite of the Logan Pass Visitor's Center were 16 Big Horn Sheep. They were about 1/3 mile away. Can you find them all?
Here's a little sheep that was close to the road.
We took a boat trip up the lake from the lodge, followed by a walk to Grinell Lake. While waiting for the boat to take us back to the lodge, this family of Grizzlies came out on the opposite shore. We saw quite a few grizziles in our three days, but always from quite a distance. These were about 1/5 mile away. -

she was on the opposite shore so I couldn't get a good look. I would expect that late August would be late in the season to be having a calf.

Didn't see them, but could hear a huge flock of swans in the pond in the next neighborhood.
Plus the Bald Eagle was circling overhead. -

My best eagle sighting was probably 30 years ago at Seney Wildlife Refuge in Michigan's UP. An Osprey dove into a pond right in front of us and caught a fish. As he was flying away, a Bald Eagle took the fish away from the Osprey in mid air.

In all seriousness, this is the insect that transmits Chagas disease. Chronic symptoms may not show up for 10- 30 years. It may turn deadly. Read more here...
