A local magazine mainly. But all about hiking etc. HB describes it all as hiker porn and the name stuck with me.

speaking of the bmt thru hke, im currently in tapoco lodge. I spent 3 says at bearpaw's with sheepdog and superman. bearpaw was awesome, slackpacking us and keeping us out of the constant rain. we holed up for 3 days at the cabin at reliance fly and tackle, and bearpaw ran us into ducktown for resupply, so we got steaks and food for the cabin, and bearpaw slacked us Friday and Saturday. sunday we zeroed with heavy rains all day. monday bearpaw dropped us off at Unicoi gap and we hiked through ridiculous blowdown. rasty if you remember last year it was even worse. I don't think anyones been out there since. anyway superman was felling his age and they decided to stop at green cove motel for the night.i wanted to take advantage of the great weather so we said goodbye and I left toward whigg meadow,. about 2 miles up I camped at a site rasty and I stopped for water, I beautiful stream rolling over mossy green huge boulders.i got hit with some t storms that blew through around 6ish, but the sky cleared in the morning and i headed up towards cold spring gap, where I camped at a beautiful site .3 off the trail with a great water source. this morning I took the new slick rock creek bypass and bob bald, Stratton bald, and the hangover were spectacular. right after Stratton bald, I ran into none other than tipi walter! we chatted for a while, he had hiked it with a friend willow who didn't want to hike it alone, but now he was hiking back. we chatted for while, but I needed to get moving if I wanted to get to the lodge for the night.
the last few days have been beatuful, all the rain has brought out all the foliage and flowers. i'll post pics whn I can. there is vvery limited wifi here, but I have use of the computer. im zeroing again tomorrow, as we're supposed to get more storms.
tapoco lodge is very nice, but expensive, cost me $200 for a single room. food is great, but also expensive. so far everyone hs been very helpful.its all good -

sgt rock posted on hiking hq that the tapoco lodge has been taken over by new owners who are looking to run a hiker friendly lodge with meals and showers. previous owners had attempted to cater to a "better"class of guess, but went out of business after 3 years.
good news! hope its open this spring. its right off the trail off the new bypass.

superman and sheepdog both got off the trail in green cove and got rides out.we really had a good tme kind of an odd trio.we're still looking for the punchline-"a retired military officer from new Hampshire a retired corrections officer from michigan and a car salesman from new York are walking down the trail when......its all good

I'm leaving tapoco lodge this morning some $600 lighter .food was great, service outstanding, but waaay too much money. next stop is the Fontana inn, then I hit the smokies. permitting was a bit of an issue, due to mt sterling being full, so I scheduled 4 sites, a night layover in Cherokee, and then 3 nights to davenport gap. looks like i'll finish on may 5th.
looking at the weather, it looks like this rainy weather pattern is finally moving away, and the forecast looks pretty promising over the next 10 days.its all good -

I guess I envisioned the lodge being supportive of hikers by offering hiker-suitable accommodations...i.e. dorm style. Ive sent them a few emails and they seem really nice. They assured me their restaurant was fine for a stinky hiker.Lost in the right direction.

Someday I hope I get the chance to put the BM in BMT. 8|Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.

after 23 hours of travel on bus and train, im finally home.
i'll post a complete trip report as i find the time, but even though this was my second bmt thru hike, it was very different than the first time, as with very few exceptions, i camped at different spots than last year, which along with the new reroute to avoid the slickrock creek crossing, by starting at different sites, changed the entire complexion of my hike from last year.ironically, except for nedtrailnamened who i met with sheepdog and superman, the only people i met on the trail were people i had known on line.thanks to trebor for greeting me with steaks and beer the very first night at toccoa river bridge. and i ran into tipi walter near haoe mtn near the hangover.its all good
