Coffee Cup - An odd piece of kit - what would you do?

I have one of these ... at 3.5 oz its heavy as I have steel cups that are larger and lighter. With the included rubber cap this is an amazing product. When I bought it nobody could tell me why this was twice as expensive as the one without the rubber cap. I have since discovered its double walled. IF you charge it with boiled water then make your coffee - it will still be hot 30 minutes later... Its like finding a space pen in the woods. Here is another rub it apparently nests inside several other Ti pots... and again it's the same place as where you would store your cylinder of gas. So its very handy...Tea, Coffee, cold ice drinks too.

I will tell you this - I have used it to death. I have boiled water in it directly with an alcohol stove, in 6 minutes. But it has never been on a backpacking trip... and never will. What would you do?

FYI the single wall is fine...

My answer is its in the car camping kit for the moment. Just want to know if anyone else has run into this.

I now have a Snow Peak 900 & 700. The can goes in the 700, that goes in the 900. The Snow Peak burner would (& will) go on top of the 700 in the 900. I had a nice sized steel enameled cup from Tortola, it was cool for me, but being the good soldier and trying to lighten the load........I got the 700, which probably isn't any lighter......but it is clean & neat, and I gotta' have that..........ah.... I'm OCD like that.

Which is exactly why I want to get one of those cups WOO has. 3.5 oz? Hell, I'm already carrying whole beans, a hand grinder, and a French press (albeit a titanium one) to ensure I have decent coffee. I'll deal with 3.5 oz for a cup. I just haven't bought it yet.

Hmmm I might part with this. Beat to hell though. I saw the french press - it impressed Deanna my wife, who had a good belly laugh as she knows a deep secret about me.

Looking back at my wish list on Amazon, it was a Montbell mug I was looking at. I clicked on it on my wishlist and when it took me to Montbell's site I got an error. Apparently they no longer have the specific mug I had looked at. So of course I looked for others. In doing so, I found this one: montbell.us/products/disp.php?cat_id=1204&p_id=1124561

It's 3.5 ounces and double-walled, but only $7.00 as opposed to the $32.00 for the titanium one (also 3.5 oz) similar to what I had on my wish list. The website doesn't list the capacity, but I would think it's going to be about the same as any reasonable sized coffee mug.

Would I be doing it all wrong if I bought the cheap one?

I have a similar steel one single wall with a lid. Purchased for $1 from a Salvation Army store. Made a cozy for it. Often it is my only pot. Alcohol stove and a half dish cloth fit inside.

I thought I had a single wall one on a float trip, couldn't understand why the water would never boil in it, thought it was the stove.

I usually take at least one Nalgene bottle, for various reasons. (I'm willing to pay the few ounces.) I have a Reflectix cozy for it, and brew a couple of cups of coffee into it in the mornings. The cozy keeps it nice and hot for quite a while.

I got a double walled titanium cup with a lid. I cant even tell you what brand it is. I think it's a Vargo. It's about the size of a big coffee cup. It holds more than 8oz. Don't know how much it weighs. Not much. Keeps stuff pretty hot for a good while. I just hang it on the outside of the pack.

Got cups that would be nice to sip joe from in the morn and at night like a double wall snowpeak w/handles, sipper top,and hot lips. However when lashing, my MLD850 is large enough to supply a couple cups H2O for a meal, with the remaining designated for hot drink. This is cooking meals in a bag. 1 pot, no cleanup, meal with a coffee. Then saw some Zzzzzzz's.

I have a Sea to Summit Delta Mug. 2.2 oz. Nylon seems to absorb less flavor than other plastics. I use for coffee in the AM and tea in the PM. Tea tastes sucky in a coffee flavored mug. Good measuring cup too. 16 oz filled to the brim is just right to rehydrate one dinner.

Prior to my first AT hike, I had been all over BackpackingLight, and TOS, and was becoming a dedicated gram-weenie. Never could accept the full UL manifesto tho. I had decided to carry a pot and a coffee cup. I got an MSR Titan single-wall ti cup. 400 ml and 2 ozs. It nests in my Titan Kettle. I was leaving for the trail on my birthday, and the day before, my son sent me a Kupilka 21. Its made of wood fiber and resin and weighs 3 ozs. Can't cook with it, it doesn't nest in anything, but it keeps my coffee warm. Great for dipping water and mixing up my favorite snack of granola and peanut butter. It's been in my pack every step of the trail, and always will be.

I'm not a coffee drinker. But I do drink hot chocolate. Why do you need it to stay hotter longer? I have my hot coco gone long before it ever gets cold and that's out of my single wall MSR Ti cup. I can cook out of my cup too...

Kit - is short for tool kit, mess kit and interchangeable with "Drill with your full kit", as your issued uniform, pack, gun, knife, boots and helmet, an expression from my grandfather who served in the English Army during WWI & WW2. The word as an expression KIT predates both wars.
