Are you feeling ok? Is said magic really just moonshine?Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.

per Hudson's TJ, DJ & GG had met him in the Smoky's then waited for him in Hot Springs and they've been hiking together ever since. Hudson is the gent that runs Bearded Woods Hostel up in CT along with his wife, Big Lu. The first mention of DJ and GG, although not by name, is on Feb 27 of Hudson's TJ. So, for the time being we can follow along on DJ's adventure on Hudson's TJ. Here's a link: trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=443374

Rough day. We spend the night at over mountain shelter. It was pretty nice until the angry wind got us bad on the shelter platforms. Joe and me were too lazy to go inside so we toughed it out and had a very cold night. The day was windy too.
The big days are tough on Joe. He is still humping his bigass pack and WalMart tent around. The weight makes it so much harder for him than for Hudson and me. Still going strong though.
Tomorrow we are shooting for kincora or the black bear resort. Hitting Damascus on march 9.

Btw, Hudson and Joe finally came to the conclusion that they hate the cold from this day on.
So yes, the over mountain night was pretty cold..
I was fine after I shoveled some 6000 kcal into my system to warm up again.
Love the trail so far. Yes its been cold and rough. But I feel my body getting stronger every day. Its not just the *trail legs*. its more like hitting another tier of trail legs every other day my only concern is the food. I eat so freaking much that I soon have to carry a second zpacks food bag..

I was just lookin' at the pics DJ posted in FB. Is that getting near Max Patch, or is he past there?
I was thinking about these pics that people you are following when they start out early like this. The countryside is all brown and dead, long veiws, but feel sorry that those early folks miss the green diversity.I am going to get to The Roan area, next spring specificly to time the Rhodies. I'm sure it will be crowded, but...........the RhodiesCheesecake> Ramen -

The pictures came from the Hughes Gap to 321 section. They are of Roan Mountain, Round Bald, Jane Bald, and the surrounding areas. Overmountain shelter was windy....BRRRRRRR!!"You might not get everything you want out of life, but you will get exactly what you need!"-Dakota Joe 2006 -

I did and have learned a lot from both of them. We are leaving today at 7:30 a.m. to go back to us 321 @ mile 425.00 and heading to Double Springs Shelter at mile 448.4. Then the next day we are heading into Damascus."You might not get everything you want out of life, but you will get exactly what you need!"-Dakota Joe 2006 -

i'll be at the road regardless around 0730
we usually start at 7 am every morning and we hike at about a 2 mph pace. i would love that and i think the guys would too. GG's phone works better than mine. we will check in a lttle later when we get service. That is the real LW. He just tries to come off gruff to scare away pack sniffers and cookie monsters.Non hikers are about a psi shy of a legal ball. -
LS, hey I can see the difference. This is not just a bunch of entitled brats expecting you to bow down to them and offer them gifts as they come out of the woods.
Instead, these are some guys who have been busting it hard in some tough conditions, that you have already developed a connection with. You are just trying to treat them like you would want someone you knew to treat you.
Yeah, I see the difference, and I am glad you are able to do it for them! The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.
