A group of people named Ryan had a huge meetup last month in California (no Bryans allowed). Every Ryan who walked in the door of the rave got a nametag that said “Ryan,” and each Ryan was greeted with a “Hey, Ryan’s here!” All the vendors were named Ryan. One Ryan flew in from the Philippines. “It’s essentially the Spider-Verse for Ryans,” another Ryan told the Los Angeles Times.

Spotify has a gazillion playlists to choose from if you don't want to specify a particular genre, artist, or album. Today they suggested "Blonde Ambition" which is "Highlights from these fair haired pop legends." (nice pun.) Seems like a playlist based on hair color is a bit odd but so far almost 33,000 people have liked it. 2,000 miler

A number of years ago I had to work on Thanksgiving. The others on that shift were much younger than me. Since none of them had an inkling of what the song Alice's Restuarant was I decided that they had to hear it. I think I'll have to play it today while we are having Thanksgiving dinner with my son and my wife's sister, and her daughter .

I got to meet Warren Doyle at the AT Vista earlier this year. He certainly seemed opinionated,as the article suggests, but a nice guy none the less.

Attended sessions of Warren Doyle at ALDHA in 2021 and 2023, and thoroughly enjoyed them. 18 hikes of the AT is impressive! In my phone and in person interactions he has always been kind. I guess I appreciate strong personalities as long as they are not jerks (which he has never been to me personally). Just wanted to provide another perspective. It is this format in general that is not growing. TOS faces the same thing.
Everything is a Tweet or Snapchat now.

It seems to me that many people are no longer interested in having a conversation. They just want to make a statement and move on. I recently read an article that said that the #1 thing that causes young people to be anxious is having to talk with people. I find that sad as I enjoy talking with people, even total strangers.

So far I've stayed away from Face Book and most other social media as I didn't want to spend the time with my face in a screen. Now that I'm retired and my time is my own I might give it a try.

Not all Facebook groups are equal.by any means. The Colorado Trail Thru-hikers is one of the better ones, probably thanks to Bill Manning.The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

I realize in 20 to 30 years from now most of us might be under the dirt instead of hiking over it. But in the meantime I will enjoy it. I much prefer quality and value over quantity and growth.

Speaking of longevity, I was at a great presentation this week on aging where the bottom line is we should focus more on healthspan than lifespan!
I would rather pass away hiking a trail in my 80s then living longer and being hooked up to machines or living in a nursing home 10 years after my body outlived my mind.
Now on a more upbeat note, I hope everyone can get out and have a great weekend. Walking daily is one the best things you can do for your health. The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

I'm planning a long hike at LBJ National Grasslands. However our next orienteering meet out there is in late January and I've got some work to do. I already had to alter our terrain map for a trail relocation. I need to check the northern end of that trail as they did some relocation there a year ago. However it was like "move it 10 meters to the east". I also need to be checking where I've done computer course design work and see if those features can be found out in the forest. So my afternoon hike might be working more than booking miles.Pirating – Corporate Takeover without the paperwork

Perhaps working, but you will be outside doing something you enjoy, and that is great.

The Isle Royale group is pretty good too. They had a great forum for years but activity there seems to be shifting to FB. It's bit surprising that they had such an active on line group given IR is the least visited NP outside AK. Kind of like us. A small group of dedicated followers.

Strange day. The closer I drove towards Decatur Texas, the more the clouds where showing rain. Weather folks said it wouldn't reach the ground. I started my 5 mile route at 10:30 and by 11:30 while chatting with another hiker, it started sprinkling. We said so long and headed our separate ways. It quit raining about a mile later. Then a mile later, right when I got to where I had my printed maps out, it started raining. My maps were home printed so the ink would run when rain hit it. I had to hold the maps under a clip board and quickly sketch in the trail changes. It rained for probably 30 minutes. Leaving me damp and chilled when I reached the truck for lunch. It had quit raining then but no sun over me. A mile to the west was sunny! I sat and ate and contemplated bailing out and heading home. But then the sun came out and I decided to go a bit father but check orienteering controls and flag them, skipping my 4 mile afternoon hike. I hiked another 2 miles I guess. Total for the day was 7.7 miles.

Now I need to make some terrain changes to our map. Then look at a few of the control locations that I went by and decide if I want to alter anything on the courses.Pirating – Corporate Takeover without the paperwork
