Guess I have a different take on it, if I were a fallen soldier and folks were "celebrating " me, I sure as heck wouldn't want them all somber and glummy, I'd want them having as much fun as possible and raising a lot of toasts to those who had fallen.

somewhere there is a thread "why are our parks so white?" but i can't find it.
anyway...the current front page of the ATC website shows a couple guys hiking; one black and one white. then a popup ad appears asking us to support trail crews. the trail crew shown consists of 4 black guys front and center and 3 white guys in the rear.
i've never seen a trail maintenance crew like that. is the ATC now concerned with political correctness?

why do we say -- "hit" the trail. makes no sense.
and people never say they like to meet over a glass of wine. it's always a "nice" glass of wine. why is the adjective necessary? i would think that it's understood.

so i'm checking out meetup groups -- and there is a group (of one so far) going on a trip on a russian ice breaker ship to the north pole. $28,700 plus airfare to helsinki from where you live and airfare to russia from helsinki. plus whatever an upgrade costs to a private room if you're traveling solo and don't want to risk the roommate they would give you. weather permitting, when they get to the north pole you can take an optional hot air balloon ride for another $500. on the other hand, they give you a cold weather parka you get to keep.
i try to avoid cold weather so this trip ain't for me.
