Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them. -

And if you own and fly your own airplane you have much more control over how safe you are
Flying, much like the sea, is not inherently dangerous but is very unforgiving of carelessness and neglect.
And yes, I used to own and fly my own airplane. The only reason I sold it was that once I was married, my wife, Kathy, used to get air sick every time we flew.
I didn't want to continue with it if it wasn't something we could enjoy together
I had a Piper Colt, PA 22-108, registrastion number N5924Z and it flew at 104 mph indicated
Never had a problem with the thing in the 4 years I owned it.
It looked something like this, but had a paint scheme of white over red with a narrow black stripe separating the 2 colors

I was on a C130 observing cargo air drops when the aircraft was heavily jostled with what I thought was turbulence. The copilot announced termination and declared an emergency. It seems the plane had encountered a tree and lost #3 engine. Upon landing and shutdown, the flight engineer extracted a small branch from the intake. However an enterprising crewchief also managed to find a feather from a turkey vulture.
The final accident report listed a bird strike as the cause, with no mention the bird was perched in a tree when encountered.

I sometimes regret not taking the opportunity to serve in the military like my dad and his 5 brothers did (and dozens of my cousins). But since I started teaching project management classes for those about to retire and enter the civilian workforce, I like to think I am helping them with the transition and possibly giving a little back to them for their service. The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

We had 74 trick or treaters. The husband bought the candy bars and took an inventory before the trick or treaters started coming. We had 112 candy bars; I ate 5 before anyone came so right now, assuming he didn't eat any, we have 33 bars left. I favor the snickers but he also bought milky way, butterfingers and twix.

One of my skiing buddies reported cars bearing ToTs from outside his neighborhood lined the street. As he lives in a slightly more affluent locale, I assume their treats are more generous. I had 11 groups of ToTs this pm, which was a pain as it meant I missed most of the scoring in Game 6.
