I was told as a boy that the lyrics of this song have change to the point that know one remembers what they originally meant. The original last line was: "Skip to my looward Darling". The person singing was referring to a sailboat and was talking about quick tacks into the wind. This is very fun and one would sing this song as they sailed. Looward was a snarbling of leeward.
