We are getting married in December in the states and coming back to Germany in January.
Because my fiance is somewhat homesick I am guessing that we will relocate to the US in maybe 0,5 - 1 year from December on.
It will take me a little longer to prepare the PCT because my goal is to do it with almost complete MYOG equipment (except poles + sleeping pad).

That's great news.
When he "got off the grid" (facebook-wise) I was afraid he got himself into trouble. Would you mind sending me his number via PM?
Thank you!

Being fired from both would be worse.

Compared to taking your children to a theme park, backpacking does not seem like such an expensive hobby.
Complaints about expensive gear look weak when you divide the cost by 100 nights a year use. The food you eat (very little) is cheap. You're not going to all those things that leak your money in town like movies or restaurants or buying clothes or anything the commercial world spends billions convincing you that you need.
This is especially true in the case of international travel compared to normal "package" holidays.Resident Australian, proving being a grumpy old man is not just an American trait. -
