I guess being a local I sorta grew up with the Flora-Bama. Heck I even met my 2nd wife there in '84. These days there's no attraction. If I happen to be at the beach and I want lottery tickets, I'll stop by. Otherwise no.Drybones wrote:
I liked those plastic walls and tarps, gave it the kind of class I'm accustomed to, that down home look, we always stayed at the Phoenix next door so no driving would be required, I've got to make it there one year for the mullet toss.chief wrote:
I was referring to the new bar, liquor store and marina across the road from the original Flora-Bama (probably still plastic walls). They're gearing up big time for spring break dollars.Drybones wrote:
Did they put up new plastic walls?chief wrote:

Years ago I was in an elevator in Taipei, Taiwan wearing a Flora-Bama t-shirt. A little chinese lady in the back said, "Hey I've been there". Turns out she owned a bar in Taipei which I visited (at her invitation) later that night. Sure enough, tacked on the wall behind the bar was a Flora-Bama t-shirt. Small world.

I'm sitting here working on one of my web sites. A Modelo beer commercial starts playing on the teevee.
Then I finally realize what is familiar about it. There is a female vocalist singing in the background.
A similar female voice that shows up in the movie A Fistfull of Dollars. Sadly, I just figured it out.

Saw this camper yesterday and then the aftermath this morning. Classic case of claim your camping spot with a gear explosion followed by lots of beer followed by how the hell does this tent go together. Utimately followed by screw it I'll throw the damn thing over the truck and sleep in the truck. This guy looked like one hurt puppy this morning.

Couple of summers ago i helped with a wilderness survival merit badge class. The instructor spoke of hazards associated with drinking untreated ground water. I added the pioneers crossing the continent often had to contend with such a hazard causing gastric distress and death, particularly among the young.
When I brought up the benefit of boiling water for coffee and tea thereby treating the water, several of the scouts objected to the drinks as contrary to religious beliefs. Undaunted I mentioned how hard cider, wine, beer, along with distilled spirits also helped to prevent diseases brought about by polluted water. The general consensus was the pioneers were violating religious beliefs.

I'm pretty good at drinking beer.
We have a microbrewery just a few minutes from home. I stop there for a beer fairly often (I have been a hop head for many years). When I finish, the bartender is sort of obligated to ask if I want another, but she know me well enough now to know that I always have just one. I always remind her that they are better off if I have one beer often rather than too much beer once.TrafficJam wrote:
I limited it to one last night. The hoppy beers are growing on me.

I'm disgusted. They kept making me try Wagner Family wines and Trefethan wines. I thought about calling the police but I'm too drunk to fill out the complaint form.
