Had a surprise ice storm overnight (there were no warnings when i went to bed). Woke up to find my university is closed and only essential personnel were to report. Ironically professors are not considered essential.

I think the vampire was Barnabus Collins. I know Barnabus is right. Show used to come on at 4pm when I was a kid.meat wrote:

Do you really have a car old enough that you can roll (crank) the windows down, or was that just a figure of speech? Kathy loves being able to roll the windows down on her old VW while it's turned off.TrafficJam wrote:
Warm enough to run in short sleeves and drive with the windows rolled down. Lovin' it.

On the news tonight they said that we have had 11% of possible sunshine since December 1. But the forecast is for three straight days of no snow. So maybe by Sunday we will get that up to 12%.

We don't see the sun or moon... or shadows for that matter.odd man out wrote:

The heater core needs to be replaced. It's an $70 part with $600 in labor. I tried doing it myself but got to a point where if I went further I was 100% committed to removing the dashboard but my skill level was at 56% at best on that repair.WanderingStovie wrote:

Squirrels and chipmunks take turns bringing pecans from the tree into my air filter. Car runs rough in the winter. I just open it up and clean out pecan shells and tree leaves. Car runs fine until next cold snap.

I was given a 50+ year old pickup several winters ago with the caveat I had to remove it from the property by the end of the day. Luckily I knew it was safe to drive and was in running condition as I had done much work to it in previous months. The problem was the truck was in Pueblo, I had a commitment in Utah in two days hence, the heater core was leaking badly rendering it useless, and a winter storm was forecasted for CO/WY possibly closing I80.Rasty wrote:

I went to a junkyard and pulled the most accessible heater core and blower I found. Went to a parts store and bought 15' of heater hose, duct tape, an inline fuse, 12volt switch, and several hose clamps. Next picked up a sheet of sheathing, a 2x4, screws, zip ties and a circular saw. In the parking lot of Home Depot, I plugged in the saw to a light standard with an electrical receptacle and built a box for the core and a frame for the fan. Running both heater hoses from the engine, through the passenger window, securing it with zip ties, connecting the fan to the battery and lastly sealing the partially open window with duct tape,I had heat. In fact across WY with temps below 0, the cab was so warm I had to open a window.
Once I had repaired the truck's heater core, I took the setup, modified it greatly, and installed it into a friend's old Jeep. He now has heat and a defrosted windscreen.
