11/11/2019, bottom dropped out here in DFW. It was 64 degrees at 8 AM this morning. Still 64 when I got to my 9 AM appointment. I walked out at 10 AM in my T-shirt and it was 54, misting and a howling north wind. It's now 5:15 PM CST and it is 33 with a wind chill of 21. And still spitting moisture outside. But, it's Texas. By the weekend, it is in the 60's.Pirating – Corporate Takeover without the paperwork

something like 22 degrees here in DFW this Tuesday morning. Windchill is 8. Clear skies today after mist and howling winds yesterday. It will moderate and be 60 by Saturday.
I saw one of our "This is Texas, Hold my Beer" memes yesterday. It was something like 10 in the Texas panhandle with a windchill of zero, meanwhile in Brownsville (Southern tip) it was 86 degrees with a THI of 94.Pirating – Corporate Takeover without the paperwork -

We had a lake effect snow event in our area. Our home got a couple inches, just enough to cover the grass. About 10 miles to the west they got two feet of snow.

I'm moving to Cincinnati in a few weeks. Looking at the new homes posted on Zillow, I saw snow on the ground.
My first thought was "this place must have been on the market since last winter." Then I checked and saw that they got 2" last Tuesday.Trudgin' along the AT since 2003. Completed Sections: Springer Mountain to Clingmans Dome and Max Patch NC to Gorham NH

It's Texas. A week ago we were in the middle of a freezing spell after a strong cold front. Today it is 72 degrees and sunny. Tomorrow 11/19, it will be 76 degrees. I had planned on raking leaves but that didn't happen.....Pirating – Corporate Takeover without the paperwork

So, 15 bags filled on Tuesday. 11 more on Wednesday. Including getting up on the roof to use the leaf blower to blow down all those leaves. We still have at least 4 to 6 bags worth hanging on the trees and floating down.Pirating – Corporate Takeover without the paperworkThe post was edited 1 time, last by rhjanes ().

We have 1.5 acres so I appreciate the help. Fortunately don't have to bag, just get it to the side of road for pickup. So my son blows into piles and I rake into extra large trash can and roll down to the road. The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

I've got 28 bags sitting around the house (lean up to the bricks under the eves, keeps the rain out). I just read that the leaf & Brush pickup day (Monday), they only pick up 20 bags at a time. I have more to rake but it rained 2 inches over Thursday and today so can't rake them up. Maybe by the weekend.Pirating – Corporate Takeover without the paperwork -
I find it much easier to just leave the leaves there and let the winter winds blow them into my neighbor's yard
Only kidding, I live in the woods. No-one cares what I do. I actually just leave the leaves and mulch them in place with my lawnmower with the first cutting in the spring.
PS: I think this is the first time in my life I have written the term 'leave the leaves' in a sentence. I had to stare at that for a bit to convince myself I spelled it correctly. The English language is a funny thing.“Of all sad words of tongue or pen,

I only have one tree that produces a few leaves so haven’t raked in years. While I regret not planting more trees (and one of my must haves for my next home is property with lots of trees), it sure is nice to not deal with the leaves.Lost in the right direction.

For 2 years, I tried leaving the leaves. I'd mulched them twice once they were on the ground. After 2 years, I had dead spots on the yard where the grass just couldn't take the volume of leaves.
Perhaps it is different in the southwest than the northeast with IMScotty. The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

Perhaps it is regional. I know the Michigan State Univ turf grass research center has a long term study (20 years now) where two identical plots of grass treated the same all year, but every fall, one plot gets a thick layer of dead leaves that are mulched and the other is kept raked clean. Year after year, thw mulched grass is just as good as the raked and has fewer weeds..

On the local news the other night the metrologist gave a weather forecast I had not heard before. "Almost Sunny". December in West MI is Never Sunny, so I think almost sunny is the best we could hope for.

The temperature only went down to 24 last night and I was actually too warm and had to shed some clothes.
Of course, that was in my winter sleeping bag that rated at -25 on top of a closed cell pad, which was under an inflatable pad with a R value of 4 point something.
Now if I'd only been out in the woods somewhere.............. -
It's unseasonably, unseasonably warm here in Metropolitan Detroit. It's been in the high 40's, low 50's for the past 4 days and supposed to continue through Sunday. The high tomorrow is actually supposed to be 57. Our normal high at this time is right around freezing.
I served snowflake pasta for dinner on Monday thinking it would complement the snow outside. We haven't seen snow since November. -
