My daughter got me something that I didn't know I needed - a whiskey wedge. Silicone mold fills half the glass so you get a wedge of ice that chills the bourbon without diluting it. Well... as long as you don't nurse it.

Finished the Bird Dog last night. Now I have to choose between Angel's Envy, Eagle Rare and Jefferson's for New Year's Eve. Or a Million Dollar Manhattan:
Crown Royal Reserve
Antica Ricetta Sweet Vermouth
Aromatic Bitters
I mix 3 shots of Crown, 1/2 to 2/3rds of a shot of vermouth, and three dashes of bitters. The secret is the Antica Ricetta vermouth. It blows the doors off of Martini & Rossi. When I'm motivated, I mix a big batch in my 64 oz. double-walled growler and keep it in the freezer. Convenient, but way too easy to stumble across the line between fun and stupid.

Ya know - I went on that rant as I had planned that trip to Shenandoah NP and didn't think I would be heading to a dry place. I am sorry about that early rant, the park is still dry, but much has changed over the years...Alcohol can be limited purchased at food stores.
So if you need a break from all that hiking here is what I found for entertainment, food and ale....
The Speakeasy 401 W Main St, Luray, VA 22835 go west on 211 out of the park.
The Brookside 2978 US-211, Luray, VA 22835 on 211 with cabins for 2 people. recently got a ABC license (No Bar) You might be able to thumb a ride to this one. brooksidecabins.com great for couples.

WOO, the park is not dry. Wine and beer can be purchased in all of the campground/wayside stores and in the Big Meadows Lodge and Skyland Restaurant. I've been known to buy a little box of wine ( about 2 glasses)to have with dinner from Big Meadows Wayside when I'm hiking around there. Liquor by the bottle in Virginia can only be purchased from a state run ABC store, Liquor by the drink can be purchased in a restaurant like Big Meadows Lodge and Skyland."Dazed and Confused"

What bar is 8ft long and serves 200 truckers near the SNP?
I have my own business and it really took no setup time-but I'm not using chemicals or pesticides.
WOO do a shot of EW it'll make you feel better.
And yes because I am using pesticides that are less toxic than wasp spray. Its a mess to get all the Dept of AG licenses, and requires many hours of continuing education each year. I think U of D is about $350 each year.
Sorry for my rant.Be wise enough to walk away from the nonsense around you! -

I just realized my 1792 Ridgemont reserve is almost gone. Talisker is running low. Time to go shopping. At least the Kazakhstan Cognac is still full (long story on where that came from).

LOVE the prices here. I just got a bottle of Lagavulin for half what it would cost in a liquor store. Even with shipping it was still way less.Do your duty in all things. You cannot do more, you should never wish to do less. - Robert E. Lee -
While perusing this site, found a few potential gifts for folks with upcoming anniversaries, birthdays, and a soon-to-be first time dad. But alas, Utah doesn't allow free enterprise regarding liquor purchases from out of state sources.

@ jimmy, forgot to quote ya before I started typin'
Yup I didn't think that for you, just funnin' Truth be told I'll have a sip of my wife's red wine if we're having a nice steak (Merlot my foavorite) or if she having a fancy muddled drink of sorts that my buddy likes to make, but I haven't had a drink (full drink, my own drink) in about 14 years now...I don't even think about really, it's just not something I do. I like cooking with wine and spirits though. -
I like having a good time, I've found that I don't need to get totally loaded to fun. And I don't have to ask anyone what I did last night lol."Dazed and Confused"

I was never a heavy drinker to begin with. I had 5 heavy drinking times when I was in the Navy. Around the past 20 years a fifth of booze would last me a year. One drink Friday night while I watched television. That was it.--
