That pack was state of the art when my dad carried it in the 60s. That 10 lbs mummy bag w'cover was also the bomb. I cowboyed in any weather with that. I finally left it in Montana in '03', and replaced it with the 3lb WM Puma.Cheesecake> Ramen

i had the perfect day off yesterday.
got up early , drove up to harriman, and parked at reeves brook visitor center, took the seven hills trail up to ramapo torne, where theres a beautiful view of the thruway and rte 17, continued on the seven hills trail to raccoon brook trail, then took the kakiat trail down to a woods road out to pine meadow lake.found a greaat spot to eat lunch , sat and just listened to the birds and the wind through the trees. i continued on to the lake and came back on the pine meadow trail to my car. the 8 mile loop was a great workout on a gorgeous day. i hit no traffic at all getting home by 4pm and then had dinner with my daughter courtney, husband brendan, and my granddaughter fia. courtney is due beginning of november, and the baby's really starting to kick. new life! it's friggin amazing!!its all good -

I hiked the spectacular Eagle Creek trail earlier this week and headed to Mt Hood and the PCT in a few minutes. Plan to visit PCT Days also. Life is good!Lost in the right direction. -

Big smile. That's a lovely hike. From the top of the Torne I might have taken Hillburn-Torne-Sebago rather 7 Hills down to Raccoon Brook, but I happen to like the other little overlook on the HTS, from that knob of rock overlooking Torne Brook.
Funny, with all the hiking I've done in Harriman, I don't think I ever started from Reeves Brook. Last time I did Pine Meadow Lake, it was on the Kakiat from Johnsontown Road.I'm not lost. I know where I am. I'm right here. -

Amazing! It's so dry that I'm sure the water volume is low.

Well, Coach Lou worked. And today to. I was going to bike/day hike NJ this weekend, I need to catch up at work, so I will go in. I'm looking to sneak away Thursday for a longer week end........ Somewhere
Yuppers! We've planned all year to take next Friday off. Every Labor day we get together with my buddy and his family and camp at the rod & gun club for the extneded weekend. Not exactly a pristine mountain top view, but rarely does anyone else camp there, and it's a long annual tradition for the families. Plus, we manage to sneak in a little fun!*
For once I'd just like to hear myself say, "Great job, self! Why don't you just take the day off." -

So, the lake in the pic is Little Rock Pond. 2 miles nobo of my car. My dad took us there when I was 10. Stealthed up on that rock, and then stayed at the shelter that was on the island.
I also took Margaret up there in '81'.
Joe, John and I maybe '92'.
What a beautiful day. I made my way thru all the stone art. The first one from the south was smaller, interesting cairns. The second group at the White rocks trail, was much bigger, and much of it was vandalized. The rocks was a needed rest.
...and then we have Places like Bear Mtn. WHY........It is straight up, on switchbacks, no view and no water.....WHY?
I arrive at a full Minerva Henchley Shelter, throw up the hooch, and hit the hay!Cheesecake> Ramen -
So I get to Clarendon Gorge, Army Ant has come and gone. Everyone takes the pic of the gorge, so here is the bridge. I thought the cleft in the rock, climbing out of there was way cooler, just wish I took a better picture.
When I got to the top there was a large rock covered with moss, in the shade....................................time for a nap.
I have found napping to be so much easier in my old age!Cheesecake> RamenThe post was edited 1 time, last by CoachLou ().

I get a early nite sleep, up at 5......it still takes me till 730 to get going.
After 4 Long hot miles up Little Killington, I get to Cooper Lodge. I'm taking a nap on top!!! Not at all looking forward to the climb back down. Mommy daddy and both daughters are up there. I'm soaked and now freezing and the girls want pics with the hiker guy!
I turn my phone on and viola! I have service.......a message from Matt! "He is taking the gondola down with his brother @ 1100. SHYTE!!! It was 1108, I called him back quick and they were still there. Burger and Long Trail Ale for me.Cheesecake> RamenThe post was edited 1 time, last by CoachLou ().
