To me the worst part about Harpers Ferry is that I never have enough time there. The place is filled and surrounded by history. This year daisy and I biked about 200 miles of the C&O rail trail. Our friend who is a trail maintainer on the C&O rented a house just above the ruins of the old church. It was super.
I am actually getting my touring bike back on the road, ready for spring. I was looking at that C&O trail..
When my wife and her daughter go down there this spring, I will try to take a better look around.

OK, the trail has water on both sides. The insects are worse that the AT in Maine in July. I had every intention of staying in doors at night. The first day we had to do 44 miles to get to an inn run by a couple gay guys. It was fine...nice guys. We wanted to stay at Lee, VA but the ferry wasn't working due to rough water. They let us camp under the campground thing with a roof. We went over to Antietam. There just wasn't enough time to do all that we wanted to. We'd like to start further north next time. I was recovering from an MCL operation er go the biking. As you age you have to focus on what you can do not what you can't do.
Hence......"getting my touring bike back on the road"
It's a rail trail so it's fine for that. The first 44 miles are easy to do if your not with a couple camera people. You know the way they are. Wait...I need a picture of that butterfly....wait...I need a picture of that leaf. Holly frucken bat crap.
