Teeth?

    • Good morning! I have done 8 section hikes, between Amicalola and Atkins, VA. As I was a teacher at that point, they were all in June. While walking amongst rhododendron and laurel, mostly at the end of their blooming, I frequently noticed large scatterings of what looked like little white teeth on the trail. I figured they likely had something to do with the plants but couldn't determine the connection. Anyone else see these, or know what they were?

    • Wintergreen, that sounds kind of funny, teeth on the trail :)

The only thing I can think of is perhaps sunflower seed shells? Many hikers like to eat them while they hike. Did you pick one up to look at it?

    • The size of baby teeth. Definitely not sunflower or pumpkin seeds. My husband wondered if they could be tiny mushrooms. A mystery. Those I hike with have wondered with me what they could be. I am going out again this June, but farther north than I have been. If I see them, I will take a picture and a closeup. We have seen them multiple years.
