An article came across my phone today about extending the AT into Alabama. I'm wondering how all of you think about that idea.
Hike the Pinhoti and BMT too whenever you get at chance. I think having a couple of ~300 miles trails is nice to do separately. 2,19x miles is long enough for thr AT.The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

It's a bad idea that would change the entire complexion of the BMT and Pinhoti, neither of which are designed for high numbers of thru hikers. small campsites, no privies, no easy resupply.
It appears to be, more than anything else, a fundraising effort for a movement that will go nowhere.
It would literally take an act of congress to change the AT, and that's not likely.
In addition, there is nothing stopping anyone from starting their hikes at Flagg Mtn if they choose. Nimblewill Nomad did just that on his recent thru hike.
A native of Alabama, NN posted this the other day.
Please sign the petition to stop this nonsense.
But if you feel otherwise, you can buy the hats and T shirts this group is selling.
It seems we're living in the Age of Grift
