    • My streak ended. After my failed guess (Hindsight, maybe the trick of "Refresh" would have narrowed it down), I did a Google. Best GUESS out there is "Around every 5 to 10 miles on average". My question had "4, 6, 8, 12"......

      Oh well

    • RIP Wordle streak at 116.

Came down to 3 words left on the last guess and I guessed wrong. Been a long time since I've been down to the last guess with a (usually) 50/50 choice to make. 2 of the words had little used letters in them -- v and z -- which was the reason for my miss.

I guess I can finally do some maintenance on my phone and not worry about losing my stats. :)

Looking forward to clearing the cache memory in a couple of months (unless I fat finger or miss one before then). Lately most questions have been repeats.

    • Hiked 9 miles at LBJ National Grasslands today. The morning hike was a muddy mess after our ice storm. I stopped and re threaded my shoe laces to do a "Heal Lock" about 1.5 miles in. Some large old dead trees down due to the controlled burn and ice. Went off trail a few times. Once to see about an Orienteering control some people had issues with, another time to go collect abandoned hunters flagging (season ended but some of them never clean up their trash).

Even though I remember having it before, I still had to guess again, fortunately correctly. I figured if I had missed it last time, it probably would have stood out more, so went with my first instinct. :)

Yeah, I don't remember the question either. But I do remember going through it at Hariman State Park soon after I met Hikerboy to get my pack after he slack packed me from Wildcat. I had spent the night before with him and Coach Lou.

      Good memories.

    • You'll never hear me call myself "hiker trash" as it's a stupid saying IMO and there is nothing trashy about me. Again IMO.

Having said that, if "hiker trash" is part of the hiker lexicon then "trash compacter" is better than "lemon squeezer".

Don't get me started on "tramily".

I know the trail is a bit over 2000 mile, and the word mile comes from the Latin mille (a thousand), as in 1000 steps which is how the Roman legions measured distances when they marched. But they only counted every step with their right foot since the left foot was "sinister" (sinistro). So assuming we are counting steps with both feet, it is 2000 steps per mile. Multiply and you get close enough for multiple choice. Who ever said taking Latin in High School would be of no use?

BTW, when my students ask if they could borrow a calculator during an exam, I started to give them paper and pencil. The original calculator.

?? that's strange. I think if you Flushed Cache it would have. Even inadvertently. About once a year, I have an issue at a Forum (no particular one) that it doesn't "Auto Logon/Keep Logged on". So I have to enter my logon. Then I'll move on to other forums (hiking and cars) and some (never all of them) make me also logon. Like my browser lost track of where I was.
Or it was a surveillance balloon. (We did live at Malestrom USAFB in Montana for 14 months....going to school on the bus and seeing an ICBM on a truck along the base road....Dad on alert and reporting at dinner of doing intercepts on Russians the prior night at 2 AM.....just another school day....)

I actually had it do that one day, then the next time I went to see the question (might have been the following day or a couple days later, sometimes I miss a day), the old numbers were back (and I think I missed it the day it had reset, but whatever streak I had had was still there when it went back to the old numbers), so it was like I was never there that one time...
