I recently started hiking the AT and wanted to share how I got to the AT from the ATL airport. The only "logistics" I had to figure out was getting from the ATL airport to the trailhead. I found this service called ThumbRides (which is pretty much bringing back the modern day hitchhiker is an awesome way). I got a ride with a couple heading to North Georgia from ATL for $7. It helped me a lot and was convenient and cheap. Definitely wanted to share this with any other hikers facing this common challenge of access. Again, it's called ThumbRides (thumbrides.com). Good luck and happy adventures!

Gotta say, I'd never use a service like that. It's one thing to thumb a ride in a national forest and another to be in a big city and getting in the car with a random stranger.
And may I ask, are you really a hiker? Are you associated with thumb rides? I saw you posted something similar in another forum.

If this is SPAM, then at least it is one of the better examples of product placement that I have seen. She has found the correct target audience, created some legitimate cover, and tempted me with the enticing prospect of eliminating some of the pain and uncertainty of hitchhiking. Well done.“Of all sad words of tongue or pen,
the saddest are these, 'It might have been.”

It irks me to be the target of someone's lying, marketing technique...they must think we're real idiots.
Even if it's for a product or service I'm interested in, things like that turn me off. I'm a fairly intelligent consumer, treat me like one.
Even if she'd been straight up about her affiliation, I'd be very leery of this. But I'm cautious anyway.
$7 to get from Atl airport to Springer? Can you see anyone going to the trouble to hook up with you at a specific place and time, ride with a stranger and all that entails for $7?Lost in the right direction. -
My young'un would totally do it though.
She's fearless, has been doing air b&b (with the homeowner staying in the home) and similar stuff since she was 18. Sometimes by herself. She found out by word of mouth about a kid (a stranger) broke down on the interstate and he ended up spending Christmas with us.Lost in the right direction. -

I may grow old but I'll never grow up.
