Age could be a factor too. Just glad the bear was not agressive.The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

Once when getting dropped off at a trailhead in GA we saw two cubs running next to the road. Unfortunately for us, they were running downhill towards the creek. The same creek we planned to draw water from. We arrived at the trailhead dry, because the creek was 1/4 mile away and it was flowing fast.....yeah....took a quickie look that way and saw...momma...ummm...think we will hike to the next water(2miles)....
