It's going to be a CF food bag and several smaller bags for my oldest daughter and her husband.Lost in the right direction. -
I'm sure I'll be asking lots of questions about making bags once the tarp is finished.Lost in the right direction.

The tarp is completed and I feel good about it. Still need to seam seal the ridge and test out some different configurations...and sleep under it. Wonder what the neighbors will think.Lost in the right direction.

We put tents in the backyard. I have walked around the backyard wearing a backpack and boots to try them out. So me sleeping out there under a tarp probably wouldn't faze them.

Late to the show, but instead of laying the middle seam over and sewing it flat on mine I left it up and ran a line through it. I'll look and see if I have any pictures of it.

I couldn't find a picture that was really clear, but I have a line through the channel along the middle of the tarp. I also have loops sewn into each end. When I put it up I tie the line to both trees and slide the tarp to center it. Then I tie off the tarp using the loops to hold it in place and give it tension. You can just use the loops to tie off your tarp, but I like the line through the center as well because this allows me to undo one loop and slide the tarp out of the way if I want to watch clouds or stars or such.If your Doctor is a tree, you're on acid.

Cut the CF for my daughter's food bag. Gosh, it's such a pretty, iridescent blue. Is there any advantage to leaving the clear plastic on the end and rolling it up so it's hidden in the seam? Or is just excess weight (albeit minimal)?Lost in the right direction.

All this talk about tarps makes me think I should make one for the rare times that I go out solo.
Right now I use a Tarptent Rainbow, the single version, for solo trips.
Kathy insists on a fully enclosed tent, and I'm happy to accommodate her wishes, to keep the bugs out when we go together. -
you need to cut that clear strip off plus maybe a 1/4". It is not laminated and is weak. Kind of like the selvage edge on regular material."Dazed and Confused"

Made a smaller CF bag for a hygiene kit for my daughter. The smaller size was harder to work with, especially bunching up the fabric to sew the midsection.
Next, i want to make her a rock sack for some ultraglide bear line from Lawson Equipment that I bought today.Lost in the right direction. -

Extremely frustrated with a smaller bag I'm working on. The thread tension is terrible and I've readjusted thread tension, stitch length, rewound the bobbin and tried a stabilizer.
The same thing happened with the larger bags but not as bad.
I'm trying to use a different thread that's a little bigger because I thought black will hide my uneven stitches better. It sews fine on my scrap fabric.
Even when it's not bunching up, one side is raised with little pearl-like bumps. Not sure you can see it in the photo.Lost in the right direction. -

I switched back to the thinner, light blue thread. It works better although still not as good as I'd like, especially since these are gifts.
It's taken all morning but here's a small, Velcro-closure bag. It will be good for cell phone, cards, cash, and keys. (I hope).Lost in the right direction. -
The next bag will have a draw-string closure.
JJ, your draw-string bag has the edge folded at either side of the seam and then sewn (?)Lost in the right direction.
