• Got a late start yesterday so I changed my plan from the shelter south of Maupin to Maupin. Got there about 3pm too early to stop and too late to make it to the next one. So I hiked for a few more miles and then turned around.
  

I had the whole place and all 50 camp sites to myself. Ate dinner and tucked myself In my quilt in my bivy with the tarp staked to the ground. Lows were expected to be 29 in Waynesboro so I expected 25. The wind was howling like a jet. Good thing I had a half pint of crown royal. About 11pm I awoke to a light shining all around.WTF who hikes in winter on a night like this? Turns out four hammockers do. Nutz.
Did you know that pee can freeze? When I got up in the morning and went to empty my pee bottle I had a slushy. Who knew? And the weird thing was my water bottle next to was not frozen. Im going to make me some foot booties for my kit as only my toes got cold.
