So I just bought my first silicone baking mat from my local "Sur Le Table" which I may return as I found one much cheaper on line at "bed bath and beyond" any of you ever use these to dehydrate on? I see in many of "Tipi Walter" pics he uses them a lot. Thoughts, recommendations, sizes er whatever?

Can't comment on the silicone mat, but 'Sur Le Table' makes my eyes hurt. ('Table' is feminine - it's 'Sur la table.')

No thanks. I got quite enough of that in the first grade. The teacher's name was Mrs. Schiebler, and I had to say that several times a day. You try and say, 'Mrs. Schiebler' with no front teephth!I'm not lost. I know where I am. I'm right here. -
I got one years ago but have only used it as a dough/pastry mat...not sure why. Let me know what you do with it.Lost in the right direction.

My hesitation with baking on it is putting it directly on the oven rack. If it's full of cookie dough, will it be too precarious to carry to the oven? Will I spill all the cookies?
I've thought about putting it on a baking pan but it's too large and the sides hang over and besides, what's the point? May as well just use the pan. Guess I could have experimented but never got around to it.
Oh, I also use it to put cookies on to cool after baking.Lost in the right direction. -
The point is it is nonstick, I think. If it gets hot enough, it burns to white ash.I am human and I need to be loved - just like everybody else does

Silicone baking mats are for baking. Gridlike mesh is for drying, and are very cheap. you can buy extras for almost any dehydrator machine out there on Amazon.Be wise enough to walk away from the nonsense around you!

Can you make thick leather / bark by starting with a thin layer of paste, drying it, applying more paste, and drying that?I am human and I need to be loved - just like everybody else does

In my drier you put the silicone sheet over the grid for wet stuff like applesauce that turns into leather. The sheets are expensive.
I really struggled with this purchase as it isn't really nessasary! Just a nice thing to have...it'll also help when I try pulling sugar again and will keep the sugar from cooling down like my inverted half sheet pan...but again not really nessasary. The post was edited 1 time, last by Socks ().
