Educating your kids to stay safe in the woods... What is your plan....?

I apologize I did not want this in the general area, Some of us have 5-10 year olds that we take hiking or "dora exsplorer" trips... (Don't Ask) and someone I trust, gave me these shortcuts to share... thoughts? These are not hiking videos they are survival/saftey videos. I wanted to get your take on them.

Your comment on 'Dora' brought to mind my first awareness of Dora. I took my five year old godson to Disneyland a while back. He knew every character encountered. Dora happened along and he loudly exclaimed 'Dora'! Running to her, he hugged and danced around her. He than lifted her blouse and peered beneath. The character gently pushed him away and than coyly bowed. The surrounding crowd applauded.

Im unable to watch the vids right now, but my take is give the kids all the useful info they can absorb, along as they are interested, thier brains are like sponges at that age and learning comes easy. That said, allow them to make the connections and steer only when needed, it's prolly less important in they get exactly right and more about they stay engaged.

I was 18 before I had the nerve to do that.

Reminds me of when I took my daughter to see the Easter Bunny at the mall when she was 3 or 4. Kids sit in the bunny's lap and talk to him for a minute and get some candy. While my daughter was sitting in his lap she all of a sudden got a scared look on her face and jumped out of his lap and ran over to me. I asked what was wrong? She said" I looked in the Easter Bunny's mouth and you know what I saw?" I said No. She said " A Man! " Poor little thing was scared to death.
