Is Elf old enough to use the term "back in my day"?
That said, at this point I have been hiking and camping for 30 years. That should be almost long enough to have earned the right to tell those dang kids to get off my lawn.Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them. -

i remember going to rei around 2000 and overhearing a conversation between a customer and the shoe guy; the shoe guy was saying for a dayhike you want something like this, for a weekend trip this, for a week trip this, and anything longer than a week this. and every category he was pointing to a heavier shoe/boot.
in my thru way back in dark ages of 1988 i sent my boots home at damascus to get resoled and got them back in the shenadoah nat'l park. during this time i wore my camp shoes -- a pair of new balance running shoes (camp shoes, lol) -- and i was the only thru i saw that wasn't in boots in this stretch.2,000 miler -

it's not just back in the day. I was reading a Web page just the other day that had packs categorized as day pack, weekend packs, and long distance packs. The 55 L packs were for weekends and the 75 L packs were for long distance. Should be the other way around.

I had a pair of synthetic Hi Tech hiking boots-over the ankle- that lasted me probably 20 years. Now I wasn't thru hiking with them just hiking now and then. Very comfortable and durable. I'd like another pair."Dazed and Confused"
