Oz, what is the significance of ELEVEN?

i first met starfail and her brother along with twigs guru, garden girl and shaman in the smokies. we met up again at uncle johnnies in erwin, when she finally convinced me to slackpack. we recruited homebrew, who i had met in hot springs, and we hiked back 20 miles to erwin over unaka mtn and beauty spot.it ws a beautiful day and we didnt stop grinning from morning till night, when we got to beauty spot it reminded me of the opening scene from the sound of music , surrounded by mountains, so i started singing it. pepe was with us, strarfail played the song on her iphone, and we sat for over an hour singing, laughing listening to i am the walrus.an unforgettable day, a day of pure joy and bliss, one of the best days of my hike.

Welcome to the cafe!!
There are a few places, such as the smokies, where dogs aren't allowed, but outside of that, the only issue is keeping your dogs under control. i know a few people who got poison ivy from their dogs, and ticks can be an issue as well.
Im starting from springer myself on 4/10, but i'll be taking the bmt thru the smokies and meeting back up with the a.t. after davenport gap.
hope to see you on the trail!!its all good -

Hope you and HB get a chance to fail again this spring. -

dogs are not permitted in the gsmnp. it will cost you $250-$300 to have a dog picked up at the entrance to the park, kenneled for a week, and returned to you as you exit the park. if "dogs" was not a typo, then figure on $450 for two. see the companion for info in this regard.
dogs can not go into the bear mountain zoo, but you can easily walk around that.
dogs are not permitted into baxter state park. again, there are kennel options available.
don't let your dog sleep in the shelters.
i assume you know how to take care of a thru hiking dog and are aware of how a dog can complicate your life in town so i won't go into those issues.
have a great hike. seems like those that hike with dogs feel the experience is well worth the hassle factor.2,000 miler -

Dogs sniff around a lot and I've seen more than one owner carrying their dog that got bitten on the nose by a copperhead or a rattlesnake. -
