whisperingwind,
We are glad to have you here, and wish you a full recovery!
Just drop in whenever you can. If you like hiking and have a sense of humor this is the place to be.The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

Astro, I put up with dmax, LIhikers, and others at trailplace, I could handle their humor there. If I cant here, I'll hang up my hiking boots!!!

Hi all. I was recommended to the site by dmax since the downfall of trail place. I have seen many familiar names here from TP that I had not seen, or communicated with in some time. Its great to see you guys are around the hiking community somewhere.
As some of you know, I was hospitalized in Roanoke VA last September, after becoming pretty sick on the trail at Lamperts Shelter south of Troutville. I was originally admitted for severe dehydration. During my stay at hospital, it was determined I had contracted lyme disease which caused me to become sick.
I was also suffering from inflammation of the stomach and intestines, swelling around the lungs, and half of my heart had stopped working. Among some other things. After a 15 day stay, I was finally released.
I have another doctors visit near the end of the month, and have been on antibiotics for the Lyme. The doctor says it's slowly clearing, and he is not convinced the Lyme was the problem with the heart, even though the docs at hospital says it "may" have been. After next visit, I may be forced to see a heart doctor.
Other than all that, the only major issue I have been suffering from, is the dizziness I started getting after I passed out twice at the TA truckstop in Troutville, in which someone called 911. It's not as bad as it has been, but all the same, it still comes and goes.
I am glad to join here, and will try to participate as much as possible, but being a trucker limits my internet time.
Welcome Wispering Wind I am curious its been a few years since I communicated to Seven Sisters- would you know how to contact him?Be wise enough to walk away from the nonsense around you! -

WiseOldOwl, how the heck are ya? Haven't seen you since..... Well, trailplace!!!
No, I haven't spoken to him other than through TP. I know he supposedly hangs out on Twitter and somewhere else, that's all I know.
I have no contact info for him. Sorry. -
Rasty, the DOT would love the $5000 dollar fine and 12 points on my license they would give me. Then I'd have lots of time to spend on here!

Yea, but that was the one thing I liked about tp compared to wb. Tp was quieter! -

We have no mission statement.
Just a bunch of frustrated hikers shooting the breeze when they can't hike.
We do have one of those. Traffic Jam wrote it.

Whispering Wind, welcome. Like you I have health problems (or age related, I can't tell) that keep me from backpacking. I still drive to GA, NC, TN, and VA and car camp for free on the mountain roads that cross the trail. My wife and I love it. I sometimes hike to the summits from those mountain gaps.
Don't let them give you that shot for the Heart Stress Test. They did not warn me that my heart was gonna stop beating. That was the worst I ever felt. Like Rosanne Rosanna Danna says, "I thought I was gonna die!" -

Hi Sandy! Welcome to the cafe.Lost in the right direction.

I barely know how to use these forums to talk. I am a lurker on hiking websites that goes for a long(400 miles plus) hike each spring since I quit working. I build a lot of my gear because I was a seamstress back when things were made in America(1975-1978). I get a lot of materials from Joe at Z-packs and AYCE at Thru-hiker.com. What is a real introduction?

Which is how I'm able to recognize someone else doing it wrong.

Sandy, you're fine. "You're doing it wrong" is a running joke here, and as a certified pack sniffer, the only thing I'm able to contribute around here is smart aleck comments, so...Do your duty in all things. You cannot do more, you should never wish to do less. - Robert E. Lee -
