I'm Gypsy, who attempted a thru hike in 1997. After about 900 miles I had to call it quits, as I hiked way too many miles with bursitis in my hip, which became a chronic condition. I'm suffering from a severe case of Springer Fever right now.
Since I am mostly in CA now I'm trying to get in shape to try backpacking again - going to the gym, etc. Don't know if I'll ever make it, but thinking about buying a backpack when I get my REI dividend in a couple of months. I still do a lot of tent camping whenever I can, and on a cross country drive last summer I resurrected my old AT backpacking tent which blows me away it's so easy to use, although heavy. I need a new tent as well. Hopefully I can do some backpacking in the Trinity Alps (Shasta Trinity Forest) this spring. -

welcome Gypsy! You came to the right place. You have the distinction of being the last poster in a gator closed thread. Therefore you get the blame. Just about everyone here also holds that honor. Again, welcome to the dark side.Changes Daily→ ♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫ ♪♫♪♫♪♫ ← Don't blame me. It's That Lonesome Guitar. -

Hi, I would like to introduce myself. I am hiker58, and no that is not my age...lol I've been interested in hiking this trail eversince I knew it existed 2008. A lot of unexpected barriers have been overcome and I think I'm just about ready to get started. I'd like to do the thru' hike. I am just not sure if I want to start in the north or south...

I'm Zman from Austin TX. I post some on Whiteblaze. More often now since I completed my thru-hike last year (2013). I've done quite a lot of backpacking over the last 20 years. Most of it from TX & to the west. Also done some in Canada, NZ, Chile, & Argentina. I'm also involved w/ a Boy Scout Venture Crew (co-ed youth, ages 14 - 20). A couple years ago, I completed the Boy Scout Triple Crown: Philmont; Northern Tier, & Seabase (the three High Adventure Bases for the Scouts).
