If you want to watch the Braves you turn on Bally Sports. Done. Easy.

But this weekend Fridays game was on Apple TV. And Sundays game is on Peacock premium - $5 monthly fee and at the horrible start time of 11:30 to give them no competition for eyeballs. MLB gives them 1.5 hrs or 2 hrs (don't remember) before any other game can start.

Chris Maddog Russo talked about this a few weeks ago about how stupid MLB is for doing it. He said if he goes to watch the Yankees -- and they're not where they supposed to be on TV -- screw it he's not going to search for em. Gotta say I agree.

    • Fear was Phillies who barely made playoffs (would not if not for this years new format), were going to prove once again it is more important to be hot than good (or at least the "best team"). But by sweeping both prior series the Astros could be considered a little hot also.

If not an Astros fan I would have been pulling for a Cleveland v. Phillies WS due to the contrasting styles. Great defense, speed, and little power against the beer league softball team.

    • To say his daughter has a lot of problems is putting it mildly.
Her mental illness should not excuse what she did in this case. She intentionally lied to the police about the whereabouts of the baby because she was more concerned that they would take her tent.
Despite her proclamations, other sources indicated she knew full well she was pregnant.

That poor baby has a rough life ahead. It was born drug addicted, hypothermic, and premature. The chances that there will be lasting damage from the mother's lifestyle are great. Eck's daughter was initially arrested due to a PREVIOUS warrant issued for child endangerment. I have not heard the details on that one, but there seems to be pattern here.

You might detect that this story makes me angry. This woman could have received all the help in the world if only she had asked for it. I have great sympathy for the harm the mentally ill often do to themselves. But once someone does harm to others, there must be consequences.

Totally agree, when you harm the innocent you have crossed a line. :cursing:

Nice catch, I'm not sure I would have made the connection.

Great to see Randy has another passion he can pursue. I see too many people who retire and then don't know what to do with themselves.

    • Exciting end to the Braves/Red Sox game today at the ole ball park!

Cut n paste from The Athletic (behind a pay wall):

Red Sox-Braves game ends after pitch clock violation called for final out

Saturday’s Red Sox-Braves spring training game ended with an automatic third strike called on Atlanta batter Cal Conley for not getting set in the box before the pitch clock hit eight seconds. Here’s what you need to know:
      • With two outs, the bases loaded and the game tied at 6-6 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Conley had worked a 3-2 count and was called for a pitch clock violation, which triggers an automatic strike. Atlanta had scored three runs in the inning to tie the game.
      • Under new rules introduced this season, pitchers have 15 seconds to begin their delivery when no runners are on base and 20 seconds with runners on base. Batters are awarded a ball if the clock expires and a strike if they are not set in the box and alert to the pitcher by the time the clock reaches eight seconds.
Braves manager Brad Snitker was as surprised as anyone including Conley, the hitter called for strike three to end the game when home-plate umpire John Libka ruled he wasn’t ready and attentive to the pitcher at the eight-second mark. Conley had noticed catcher Elih Marrero still standing and looking at notes on his wristband when the umpire pointed to Conley, who took off for first base thinking the pitcher was in violation and he had a bases-loaded walk-off walk (the count had been full).

Instead, he ruled Conley out because while Marrero wasn’t in position behind the plate, the pitcher, Robert Kwiatkowski, was standing on the mound, ready to deliver a pitch.

    • I think there would be a better way to do that. I think the rule is the pitcher can't pitch until the batter is in the batters box and ready. All you would have to say is that rule only applies when there are more than 8 seconds on the clock. Once you get below 8, if the batter isn't ready, it isn't an automatic strike, but the pitcher can doest have to wait.
    • Hmmm....

      <snip>

Longtime Philadelphia sports fans remember these names: Tug McGraw. Darren Daulton. John Vukovich. John Oates. Ken Brett. David West.

All six played for the Phillies. And all six died of glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. All were younger than 60.

And all played at Veterans Stadium on a field that was considered state-of-the-art, a so-called “magic carpet”: artificial turf. But in recent years, environmentalists, scientists and researchers have expressed growing concern that the chemicals in the turf could possibly be linked to some kinds of cancer and other health problems.

    • Holy Crap, that is concerning. These PFAS are accumulating everywhere.
Massachusetts recently put out a list of ponds and lakes people should not eat fish from due to high levels of PFAS.
Our regulatory agencies seem to be sitting on their hands on this :(

    • Sayanara and good riddance to Trevor Baurer who will be taking his penis and fists to the Japanese Central League and playing for the Yokohama DeNA BayStars (who?).
He will earn $4 million for 1 year for pitching for the BayStars in addition to earning $22.5 million from the Dodgers who paid him to leave town.
