Amazing to still be out there at 75.The road to glory cannot be followed with much baggage.

So glad they were able to revive him. I have a feeling Bill Lee has a few more laughs to share with the world. He always remembered they were just a bunch of grown men playing a game that was meant to be fun.“Of all sad words of tongue or pen,

I almost hate myself for giving this guy the attention he was looking for in this obviously staged production -- but he's already all over the internet.
Or we could pretend it's legit and just say "typical Yankee fan".

It wasn't too long ago when Interleague Play was something special and must see TV. Except for a few select teams, now it's just same ole, same ole. I'll make an effort to see the Red Sox, the Rays, and whatever team Ohtani is on. Hopefully that'll be the Red Sox. I'd also like to say the Rays or the Braves but that isn't gonna happen.
<snip>
For the first time, the Braves will play at least one series against every team in the major leagues.
In the 2023 season, Atlanta will play at least one series against each team in Major League Baseball. In addition to playing each National League team, the Braves will play a three-game series against every American League team except Boston, against whom the Braves will play a pair of two-game series. The first set against the Red Sox will take place at Truist Park from May 9-10, then at Fenway Park from July 25-26.2,000 miler -

52 games against teams in their division; 46 interleague games.
I'm hoping that the end of the season someone presents a revised standings that shows each teams record only against teams in their own league. Might be interesting...
<snip>
Some specifics of the balanced schedule:
- Teams will face their division rivals far less next season, with 52 total games against teams in their division, down from 76 this season. That includes 13 games (over four series) against each team, a decrease of six games and two series. Those 52 games included 26 at home and 26 on the road.
- Against opponents within their own league, teams will play 64 games, evenly split home and away, down from 66 this season.
- The biggest change will come in interleague games. For the first time, a team will play every opponent from the counter league. That will include 46 total games, an increase from 20 this season. Those series, though, will be divided home and away, with seven interleague series in their home park and seven on the road. But every team will play one home-and-home interleague series, over four games, against its “natural” rival.

Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them. -
Todays baseball news courtesy of The Athletic.
Aroldis Chapman became the latest Yankees pitcher to go on the injured list Saturday, joining All-Stars Nestor Cortes and Clay Holmes. The difference? Chapman’s injury didn’t occur on the field.
- The left-handed reliever has an infection in his leg, caused by a recent tattoo, manager Aaron Boone said.
- Asked if he was frustrated Chapman would put himself in this position, Boone said, “I don’t have tattoos. That’s a personal choice. It’s usually a safe thing to deal with.” Frost level … medium?

I guess I am just old school. I enjoyed it a lot more when you played just the teams in your league. Wotld Series seems a lot more special then.
The young guys wanted to play their friends (or enemies) on the other teams more often. Young in my bowling league means anything less than 60. Old school finally left and now the youngsters are running amuck thinking all this should actually be about having fun. It does destroy the concept of league play, however.“Of all sad words of tongue or pen,

ETA: Even walks are exciting in banana ball! (For those new to banana ball -- No "walks"; on ball 4 the ball becomes live after every player on defense touches the ball. Every walk has the potential to become a home run as the batter can advance as far as he wants to attempt.)2,000 milerThe post was edited 2 times, last by max.patch ().

i see some rule changes being considered.
espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/345513…-sources-say?platform=amp
A couple things i dont get.
Why does the batter have to be "alert". I thought any pitch with the batter in the box was legit.
Also, why prohibit infielders from playing on the grass. I don't equate that with a shift. Doesn't the 2nd baseman usually play in shallow right field grass with no shift? -

Twitter has annointed Joey Gallo as the 2023 MVP.

Jackie Robinson: American Hero
This weekend while I was in Queens, NY I paid my respects to the great #42, Jack Rosevelt Robinson. He endured much to help break six decades of segregation in baseball in 1947. There was a pile of baseballs left at the grave from fans with notes of thanks written on them.
To the disgrace of the Boston Red Sox, they were the last team in MLB to integrate, finally fielding Pumpsie Green in 1959 while under threat of a discrimination lawsuit.
