lol, not a hanger, have no desire to be a hanger, but the obvious answer to me would be IN the hammock and ya sleep ON it for insulation. UNDER the hammock makes absolutely no sense.

Same here, no intention to ever hang, but I would have thought the "obvious" too.

also to add to the complications of hammocking you need a net thing with it. We saw this young lady struggling with hers on the flipflop last year. I'd never make it out in time to pee without ripping the thing to pieces. Too many pieces for me but some people love 'em. Shug makes them look like fun.

Hammocks are so comfortable but I'm not ready to convert...yet. I like tent space and don't like the idea of my pack or supplies being under the hammock where I can't get to it easily.

Plus there's my issue of not being able to assemble and hang the tarp and under quilt correctly. I've read and looked at instructions and videos but think I need hands-on demo.

I made a simple net with velcro on the ends and middle to attach to the ridge line and hangs over the sides of the hammock, much easier to attach and easier to get in/out of than the Fronky style I started with.

A group of us camped this week end (one lady actually hiked 8 miles in the 90* weather) and one of the guys had a great find he shared, you can take one of those $.97 bath scrub thingies they sell at Walmart and untie it and you have a long stretchy tube that's perfect as a snake skin for your tarp.

Kathy and I have discussed the idea of using hammocks instead of a tent.
We decided that as long as we hike with a dog a tent is what we want so that fido is contained.

The only time our dog is off leash is in the tent.
If she weren't on leash, or confined in the tent she'd be chasing every other animal she sensed.
On the rare occasions we overnight in a shelter she is on the leash belted to my wife's waist.

Using this technique with a couple of now departed dogs would result in my having a canine presence in the hammock.

The benefits of a hammock for me FAR outweigh any negatives.

TJ I sewed loops on the corners and along the sides of my quilt. I run bungie cord through the loops and simply tie it off at the ends of the hammock, This allows me to slide the UQ to whatever position I desire.
