Can cracked pac boots be fixed?

I have a pair of Sorel conquest pac-boots which were great until last year when a split formed between the rubber and the leather where they met on the side. This happened to both boots. Shoe-goo, which is my normal fix for all footwear problems was not able to hold this seam together.

Is this something that can be repaired?

Anything can be fixed....if you have enough time and money.

I could get a new pair for $120 with the 20% off coupon I have, that's why I ask if these are fixable or if I should just suck it up and get a new pair.

I'm also wondering if I should get the same pair again or get something that is full leather. I think that their use with snowshoes and light crampons probably stressed the sections that separated and that's the primary use of the boot.

I have some sort of leakage problem with my Sorel Caribou boots.
Last winter they started leaking but I never really inspected them to see where or why.
On the other hand Kathy had a seam on her Sorels open up and it caused leaks. She took them to the local shoe repair guy and the repair has held up for years. I don't know what he did to fix them and Kathy's not here now to ask her. All of this may make Sorel boots sound like a boot to stay away from but I have to tell you, mine are at least 10 years old and Kathy's maybe 8 or 9.

So I guess the answer to if they can be fixed or not is....maybe

You could try some shoe goo, worked for me once, but depends on how much movement the repair area is going to go through after repair, mechanical stresses and all.

Bet these pairs were of US or Canadian manufacture. I've seen pairs worn for decades showing wear but still functional.

Available models I've looked at recently are of Asian sources.

Suggest black silicone sealant. Cut a smallish opening in the tip and squeeze a thin layer, let dry, and reapply until the gap is filled.

Marine goop. Caution, it dries hard so be sparing with it's use.

looks like the rubber deteriorated. If they aren't real old I'd contact sorel..They might help you out on some new boots.

Wondering if waded patch (the kind you heat with a flame and drip on) would be any better as it is somewhat pliable.

Usually when I have to glue or seal a shoe I take it to work with me and use this stuff as we almost always have an open can of the stuff to work from

Don't know what it is, but any label that fore goes the fancy marketing, and list what looks like the periodic table must be good for somethin....does it come with a douber?

You wouldn't need a douber if you spend enough time inhaling the fumes from that stuff.

just return the boots to rei.i dont think it matters if you got them there or not, their return policy is pretty liberal

I feel the same way. I have TNF Denail jacket with a broken pit zip.I got it at discount through a outdoor stoor that rented from company I used to work for. Zipper has been broke over ten years but it's still my beatter go to fleece. Now has sap stains & many burn holes in it. Some may argue THF has lifetime warrenty. Best I can figure this jacket has servred me 25 years of hard use and has exceeded it's lifetime already! Might still get a fe more years out of it yet!

They warrenty factory defects & workmanship. If I sent it back they would be correct in sending me just a zipper back!

If you do return it at the 30 year point, might be featured in an ad. I recall hi-mileage Ford and Chevy pickup ads.
