I was looking to add another solar panel on the homestead when this poped up in the search. Goal Zero solar kit. It's referbished, but a great deal. Battery pack, solar panel & mini speakers for cost of less than the panel alone. To good a deal for me to pass up. Just $59! I was thinking of trying the battery pack. That alone goes for $49, solar panel $79. Never priced the speakers, but for the price it was to good to pass up. It's due to arrive wed.

What's Wrong? everything... should we sell you an overpriced EDSEL? Hey I took some heat over on the other thread and some of it was spot on... The green tunnel etc. but test after real time test stuff changed. I learned a long time ago that Kyrocera was innovative in making the lines of conductiviity are closer together and produce more amps and watts. I took heat.... I claimed that the panels would not get smaller, but produce more power and get lighter. And we are not done... there is a top secret panel that is made in the USA that is uber light and flexible and sets itself apart as its both series and parrallel at the same time and when a tiny part goes bad.. the panel repairs itself. Currently it is carried right now by the Marines.
My current links say this is the best right now for backpackers and hikers...
Here is the knock off and a little to big...

Here is the recent addition and I am buying this

The ham radio club I'm about to join had a class on solar cells recently. We worry about such things to provide electricity during disasters.
The flexible ones can be damaged and still put out electricity. The one he showed was abpout 4' x 6', and he informed us it works in the green tunnel. Not something you would hang off the back of a backpack. but would work angled and facing South.
The rigid ones, if they get damaged, they stop producing electricity.--

Its part of folklore... lots of reasons, none of them official.
Amateur radio means we aren't commercial, we do it for free.
In the early days, spark gap transmitters, commercial cw/Morse operators called people HAMS that sent lousy CW/Morse. Evidently, early hams decided they would accept hams, note lower case, as a moniker for themselves.
I have seen ham fhorums explode verbally when someone asks about HAMS, instead of hams.
There are apparently several other myths on where the moniker 'hams' came from.--

I've been told several myths on where the name 'hams' came from, thats the only one I remember.
I might be taking my InstaBoost on long hikes... but it does weigh one pound.
One of the other hams local to me takes solar arrays with him when he goes hiking. But they are very expensive, over $300 typically.--

I saw your review of the panel before WOO. I just couldn't pas this up as a combination pack. I was thinking of trying the goal Zero battery pack so I could charge camera & headlamp batteries on the ICT & not to have to carry a bunch of dispoables ones. I'm striving to live greener. It's $40. It can be used as a charger for batteries & my tablet. ICT isn't the green tunnel. First 120 miles are pretty much desert ie lots of sun. Good streach are in high country ie lots of sun. With a few 10 days streches between resuoly I am considering a solar panel since many resupply locations won't have electric. I may upgrade to a better panel, but for the price of the battery pack & speaker that I can use at the homestead it's like getting the panel for free.

On my LASH thru the Sierra I would often take extended lunches. Roll out my foam pad beside a mountain lake, eat, read & maybe nap. Once I continued hiking it was often untill dusk. One guy I hiked with after he about his thru to GI illness thanked me for raminding him how to hike "Civilized"when we departed company due to different resupplys.
